This evening I was on a highway, hardly any cars out, 50 mile an hour speed limit....... coming the opposite direction is a cop and he gives me a weird look as he is going by. I right away think to check my speedometer. HA!! what do you know 41 in a 50.

This is like the third time this has happened to me when traffic is light to none and I thought ....dang, I turned 30 this year and I am already driving like an old lady out of habit.

I don't rush anywhere because I always leave my house early and try to get to work and appointments early.

Problem is, I have been driving like this so long that 60MPH actually feels like I am flying now, Yet when I was younger 5 over the speed limit was boring.

:steering::steering:

I drive under the speed limit everywhere. It conserves gasoline.

Totally depends on condition, but I usually go the speed limit or 5 above......
and occasionally in certain areas let 'er exercise :D

Good for you Rusty. I also try to maximize fuel economy. Also, a HUGE drain on fuel mileage is Jack Rabbit starts and waiting till the last second to take the foot off the gas and then having to slam on the brakes to stop at a light. My wife has a lead foot and she averages 14-15 MPG in town in the 4.7 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I can drive that car and get 18. That's a 20% increase. Don't get me wrong, I 'exercise' the Cuda frequently without regard for fuel economy.

I'm a 10 (kmh) over everywhere kinda guy. Speed limit 50? That means 60.

Has nothing to do with being late. Or in a rush. Or that it takes long to get anywhere here. It's a 10 minute anywhere kinda city.

I just genuinely enjoy speed. I've gone 200mph in a rail car. 160mph in a circle on the dirt. And 150+ mph on the street (safely of course). Just always have. I was the kid on a dirt bike with the throttle wide open. Who mashed it every chance he got in the golf cart. Used to love hopping on my Harley with a built engine and rip around the back highways without a helmet. Just had to have that speed. That said, there's a difference between driving fast, and driving dangerously. I've never driven so fast I felt out of control. And if I'm driving the scamp and throwing the back end out, burning the tires, launching hard, etc etc. I'm never doing it while at high speed. You'll never see me "crowd hunting" like the typical mustang owner. I've been driving since I was 3, I'm almost 31. And in all that time, I've never been in an accident. Of any kind. I haven't even backed into a pole in a parking lot. I avoid accidents on a daily basis. Got more close call stories than most.

I think it depends on the person. Some people can drive faster than other's. Some should drive slower. And some just shouldn't drive.

It depends on the car. In our 02 PT Cruiser I normally go 5-10 over, in the '16 200 I tend to go 10+ over because it rides and handles so good that you can be doing 80 in a 55 without hardly realizing it. In my Duster I tend to stay around 55-60 in a 55 speed limit, it's just easier to drive slower in the Duster. With the Duster, 55 is relaxing and enjoyable; in the 200, 55 is just flat out boring.

Split personalities...98 Taurus wagon? Like a lowrider....: stereo cranked, driving slow.... 72 Scamp(it's been a while...) Hammer on it,in the right situation....
.

I always cruise to work between 75-85mph (still get 38mpg :) ) Through a neighborhood I'll stick to the speed limit. Don't want to hit any kids.

Mostly around the speed limit. Enjoy the ride. No point in driving fast. Just end up waiting behind someone anyway. I'll go faster on the highway sometimes. Just make sure there are a few others going faster to keep the cops busy.:D

I'm almost identical to Lustle except I'm 58, I drive the Dart like a maniac, a responsible maniac if that makes any sense. I always keep a proper distance from the car in front of me, tailgating drives me crazy. Where I live there are plenty of nice two lane roads with very few houses on them.

Smooth as she goes ! speed limit and coast to my next stop in the slow lane, and yes my blinkers work

My cobalt I drive lightly for economy 33mpg the rest is free game.

i wont admit to habitual speeding, but i will say this...except for the time i blew the rear end out of it....i have never been late anywhere i drove the duster

Daddy was a mailman for 36 years. He won the Safe Driver award every year. I still have them all. I can remember when he was teaching us how to drive, he used to say to act as if there were an egg between your foot and the gas pedal. He was right. It works. Very sudden changes is what to avoid. But then, he was right about most things.

Thats why I bought a radar detector a long time ago lol, course here in so Cal bot to many places to really speed way to much traffic, atleast where I live.

AN EGG???? I was told it's a SPIDER!!!!!!

Whatever speed it takes to stay the hell away from everybody!... faster or slower. They can't hit what's not there.

Most people seem to think driving is the second or third priority behind whatever else they are doing in the car.

If I have to go ten over or under to avoid the pack, I will.

Now, if it's a long trip on an unpopulated interstate, or I feel like stretching the stroker's legs on an empty, safe road. Maybe fast enough for a fat ticket.
