I have a 360, with new Hydraulic Flat Tappet lifters.
I would like to go with adjustable rockers, do they need to be offset rockers?

Thanks...

(These are what I have..)

No. Only the TA heads needed offset rockers. All other small block heads take the same rockers. The ones you have in the picture look like stock 273 rockers and will fit 318 340 360 heads.

whew! I just found out about the offset rockers, so I started to get a little confused.

These rockers look to be in pretty good shape, so I think I'll use these, Since the Cranes Irons are $300.00. Are the Cranes really that much better though?

Don't I need springs, or shims between these rockers? If so, can someone direct me on where to buy them?

Thanks!

nothing wrong with the 273 rockers....if you got them use them

No springs, those are for big block rockers. Small block rockers only had the hold down tab that the bolt goes through to hold down the shaft. There are two different length holddowns, so be sure to put them in the correct place.

About all you can say about 273 rockers, is that you have a set of adjustable rockers. The ratio's are not anywhere a true 1.5. This is due to them being a OEM piece & all it had to do was function.
I really like the Crane ductile rockers. I ran them for the past three seasons, no problems at all. I did change them out over the winter with a set of the Hughes aluminum rockers, that I had gotten in a trade. These are some nice pieces.

Are you sure these are 273 rockers? These in the photo have a lock nut/adjuster screw like an aftermarket rocker arm. The 273's used a friction type adjustment screw.

When you say they didnt have anywhere near a 1.5 ratio do you mean they are less or more? or just all over the place as in one is different than the other?

Well, I just guessed that they are 273's! I really have no idea. The guy I got them from has no idea either...

It does have the lock nut adjuster screw.

If someone has any idea Please let me know! These aren't the Crane ones either.
I THINK the only other ones they could possibly be, are the ones that came on 340's in '71. Maybe those are better???

Help?

Here are 273's, they do appear different?!?!?

Wonder if someone could have swapped out the stock adjusters for the ones you have.

Lil trick with these rockers is to re drill the oiling holes so that it sprays oil on the rocker tip instead of the top of the valve cover.. Then either fill the old holes or re bush the rockers covering up the old holes... Make sure the new hole goes through the new bushing installed and they move freely on the shaft... Just my opinion.... onecatnodog:read2:

Well... Two people just posted after I added the pictures above... Figures...

Take note, they do look different, and also there is spacer in the 273's.

Looks like I might have found myself an odd duck. I hope they work??

Do a mock set up on the head... It will let you know for sure... onecatnodog

yes...alot people swap out the old friction adjuster for lock nut adjuster...

I would assume then the luck nut adjuster would be better? I could just use both then.
Like I say, they do look slightly different, but?? Who knows? The arm on mine appears to be more rounded shaped and there is a circle in the cast of my rockers that's is not on the first picture of the 273's.

I am running 273 rockers on my 340 with the adjusters changed out with locking nuts. They seem to do well, the friction nuts do not seem to stay adjusted as well, so to me yours are better being changed out. The picture of the 273 rockers you posted is correct and they will have those spacers to seperate them. You also asked about a 71 340 to my knowledge all 340 's came with hyd. stamped steel non-adjustable rockers. on them. Hope this helps you. Mopar performance my have also made some of those type rockers for an off shelf part. Matt

Yea, as far as the 71' 340's. That is just something I was reading about today. Mopar had T/A heads for a 340 in '71 that had Adjustable rockers that were offset. These that I have are not offset, so that wouldn't be it either. I just remembered that part :)

Yes the T/A 340 did have adjustable and offset rockers that were used on and with the T/A heads. But they were on the 1970 Challenger T/A and the 1970 Cuda AAR.

Oh! '70! Sorry! Well, I should have it right for next time. I'd like to see a picture. It sounds interesting!

here is the TA rockers...note the intakes are offsetted...two lefts and two rights...

Myasylum the rockers you have in the picture look identicle to the crane rocker I have on the shelf in the garage. Crane did not put there name on the iron rockers. I now the ones I have are crane and there is no name or markings on them.
