I know this has been beaten to death already but here it goes.
I just picked up my copy of DRAG RACING ACTIOn and sure enought there is an article on engine oils and Zinc.
It states that with a flat tappet cam you MUST have zinc. They even recommend it with a roller cam with higher spring pressures. It also states to mix it with synthetic with a additive like LUCAS ZINC ADDITIVE ( only an example) if you want to run SYN. It is pretty adamant about zinc content and how almost all oils off the shelf including now Rotella contains no zinc any longer. It does say selective oils not recommened for street use ( converter cars) such as VR1 vavoline have Zinc.
