Hard heads...

-
people want to her what they want to her. they want someone to confirm their erroneous ( spelling? ha) ideas maybe.

there is an old saying out West. a horseman will live many decades, and ride many many horses, and still will be learning the day he dies. every horse will each you something if you let it...... same is true of working on these old cars, every car we rebuild it will teach us usually something if we let it... asking questions and listening to those that know more, we will learn if we listen and put our ego aside just a while. ago can be a funny thing!

I for one, appreciate the help offered here by some many knowledge people..

My question is this: If you had a list of "qualified knowledgeable FABO members" (I'm sure I wouldn't be on it... LOL), then who do you listen too???????
  • This is just an example using RustyRatRod's list: Trailbeast offers HEI distributors for sale, but whitepunkonnitro says he likes points distributors.....
Now, which of these two "qualified knowledgeable" advisors should a "newbie" listen too? Somebody is going to walk away saying "Hard Head"....... LOL :D

For heavens sake, I've seen people on the "qualified" list that argued if a 1406 edelbrock is a square bore or a spread bore .... LOL. And I could dig out the postings and post them here.... LOL
What it comes down to, is if folks don't choose "Your Way, it's the highway" maybe???
:poke:

Like to add to this,
Just move on and don't do the back and forth thing. A lot of people just read and do not respond. Don't stop people its all good stuff thanks

And look at you. Is there anyone here that knows more about big block Cudas? I doubt it. And you're always throwing information out there. That's great. It just don't get no better. .....wait.......wasn't that Milwaukee's Beast? lol

And you buddy........you gotta have a little brick wall in your computer room just for turning around and beatin your head against. Does your forehead ever heal completely?

I've said this before, I think a big problem is modern tablet devices. I don't think people "think" with them the same way they do a "real" computer. The screens are smaller, graphics are more difficult to deal with. The "new improved" software on this site bundles up quotes and makes them somewhat hidden. There is a number of issues, besides just "not payin' attention."

And no, I don't copy/ paste much, except the links I post to other threads, MAD, the MyMopar sources and so on.

I DO admit that sometimes I don't read as closely as I once tried.

Glad you threw this out there......and it's really not where I was goin. I don't care who uses what info from who. Just don't be disrespectful to someone trying to help. Maybe somethin like "Thanks for the ideas, I am still sifting through the info and will keep yall posted".

And yeah about the points VS electronic ignition thing, I happen to agree with Tony there. If you have points and they work good, use um.

My question is this: If you had a list of "qualified knowledgeable FABO members" (I'm sure I wouldn't be on it... LOL), then who do you listen too???????

Every expert has their own point of view... Lots of it is based on their experience...

The newbies need to figure out which way that they want to go and follow the advice of the guy with the history/experience with that...

If I were to go HEI, I would seek out Trailbeast's advice...

If I were to go points, I would get advice from whitepunkonnitro....

You also have Halifaxhops that has a Sun distributor machine and is now checking and re-curving distributors both points and electronic...

Halifaxhops and Del are experts on electronics... Those are the guys that I would listen to for electronic advice....

Rusty has machine, engine building background and has been doing this longer than me... He knows lots of things that I don't...

If you sit back and observe for a while, you can figure out who knows what they are talking about...

Everybody's opinions are based on their experience... Everyone has different experiences... But it is the people that have worked with this stuff for years and have formed their opinions and learned how to make each option work....

The trick for the newbie is to get all of the different points of view, filter out the "full of ****" ones, and then form their own opinion...

Looking at things from different points of view and then forming an opinion is a lost art these days, it's getting harder and harder to find along with common sense.... But if used properly can help you get through life...

Where's J par at ???? Jpar, get your migraine self in here..... denying every bit of advice ever thrown your way... LOL

I know! A new idea for FABO. Add a forum called "Pick an Expert". You can pick anyone from a list, and he/she can work you through your project without influence from others.

P.S. - I fully understand all that you stated, and I get Rusty's point of the thread. I know you can't read the body language through a computer, but I really have a lot of humor and fun

Pick an expert - not a bad idea...

But on the humor side - isn't that sorta like pimping??? (where they line up all the girls at the brothel for the customer to pick)... :D

I know that's right! What a dumbass. He came around, though LMAO.

Seriously......that guy is on the list by default. He's the epitome of what it's all about. I cannot fathom how much he musta learned and still is with that bucket of bolts he has. lol

Imagine doing it all day, every day.lol

Johnny: You'll need a new distributor to make that EFI operate properly
Customer: but i want to use my stock one
Johnny: Those don't work... plain and simple
Customer: yeah but i'm going to try it

Week later

Customer: I need tech help on my EFI
Johnny: Stock distributor huh?
Customer:...order me the pro-billet.

so, while we have all the top minds in one thread...what oil should i run again?
Well that would depend on what cam you have, or converter, or distributor,or total timing, or what your resting pulse rate is, or your allergies, or ,or,or,or, I have a headache. Sorry, I don't know!

in defense of newbies, so they ask a good question. sometime they have little auto experience, but they are also new here and have not had the time to determine WHICH guy is giving good advice??? and their can always be several "right" answers. but I hardly ever see anyone here answer the newbie's question and ridicule their their lack of knowledge. an too maybe they are a GM convert! ya gotta take that into consideration!!? ha ( that was a joke)>>>>>

Joined the A body forum last year, I do remember a similar post, with the similar cast of characters, with a similar story line. I know a lot of my questions have been answered just by using the search engine we have on this forum. Indeed we have seen the same questions over and over again. Pop tart/toaster answers may or may not work on all issues, as we know from past experiences. We would be rich, if we could give absolute answers for the specific issue. Give your best answer/advice and let it ride. Then give yourself a pat on the back for your contribution, not for thinking you gave “the answer”.......... Mr. Bill?

But on the other hand, some newbies find it much easier to ask a question than to do a search and come up with a bottom line to answer their question! But alas you missed the OP point, it is the question that gets asked, but then the poster doesn't like the answer(s) he gets, ignores some very knowledgeable people and does it his or her way anyway! At least I think this is what RRR was talking about?

sometime mopar people have strong views. why? must be genetic? or we learned that from being the underdog, the least respected car guy, the maverick, the lover of the brand that for decades NO ONE wanted to repop parts for? we had to do things many times the hard way?? have ya ever had a MOPAR wiring problem and go for advice to a GM mechanic!!???? ha
the guys that love small blocks but can't stand or has to wonder why anyone would drive a mopar with the slant!???? or the guy that cannot understand WHY anyone would run point, OR a mopar ECU, and NOT a GM HEI !!? ha

yes, we are a "cast of characters"!!!!! ha

@jeffnmo "you get tired of repeating yourself." Is correct but also the arguments. Mostly the stupid ones.

yes, we are a "cast of characters"!!!!! ha

Ahhhh, yup!

"Never Argue with a Moron, they will drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience"

Learned that one here. Use it at work once a month in explaining myself when I throw my hands up and walk away.

Give your best answer/advice and let it ride.
Thats al we can do. Try and help.

Ok, i'll leave the humor/sarcasm out. For real.....
it's a free forum, they are free to ask and your free to give advice or not. Simple guidelines to not letting it get to you...
  1. And this IS number 1. !! Their project, their money, so ultimately it's up to them. Period. If it goes wrong, they'll be back. You loose nothing, so don't loose an hour of your life stewing !
  2. Too many times we tell them to use the search engine. If that's where they all go, then there would be very few post, except a lot of for sale adds :)
  3. If they are new, they have NO IDEA who knows what...... so they come with a question and they will question every answer.
  4. This is meant to be fun, and entertainment. If it turns frustrating, and ruins even an hour of your life, it's not worth it. It's a Forum......
  5. I will continue to insist you can cut 360 heads .040 and bolt them on a 318 WITHOUT cutting the intake. Done it many times, and ALL those that have listened to me have done it with success, and not one horror story. So all the PROFESSIONALS can quite advising against me..... :D (sorry, I had too).... LOL
