Last week I got a call from another company in water/wastewater treatment. We were going to do the interview over the phone, as it is a 24hr drive north west of where I am. But I got thinking, seeing as how Friday was my last day at work, I may as well go there, show them I am seriously interested and check out the facilities/area. Hopefully it will speed the "process" up as well as I verbally agreed to start in Manitoba by the 3rd of December. Going to borrow Dads truck and hopefully he will come for the trip. Should be some gorgeous scenery!! Taking the camera for this one! Should be back by Friday

Best wishes sent your way and a joyful drive (hope your dad goes with you) to do double duty on driving. I hope to see a new thread started that they excepted you to work for them Steve, yes!! keep your eye pealed for the Deer and Moose crossing the hwy's for sure.

Enjoy the drive Steve and good luck with the interview buddy .
just googled it and it said 1750km 22 hours and they judge it at the speed limit .

Good luck Steve.

Let's hope the pro-cess works. LOL! (Just teasin you on how Canadians say pro-cess eh...)

Thanks everyone, Dad wasnt up to the trip, so my youngest (20 yr old) came with me for the drive. I was thinking on the way up there that Connor has been my wingman for most of my extended runs, wherever we go. The trip was exhausting, but I knew it would be, we left Monday at 2 in the afternoon and got to Sioux Lookout by around noon on Tuesday. Thru the entire trip we didnt see a single moose or deer! Kinda disappointed we were both really looking forward to seeing a moose for sure. We did encounter a tractor trailer roll-over though! This was in Hearst, which is about the 1/2 way point. We pulled over to see if they needed help and sure enough they did as tractor was on its side and the entire load was all over the place in the ditch. Driver was trapped in the truck, so we took dads long handled ice chopper and smashed out the windshield. There were about 4-5 guys there helping, and we were about to pull him out, but thats when firetruck, ambulance and OPP arrived. So that was our cue to get the heck outta there. We donated a Toronto Maple Leaf blanket for the cause(cover the driver up while we smashed the windshield) I think the truck driver fell asleep, there were no skid marks nothing and he wasnt off the road too far, maybe 40 ft so he wasnt travelling too fast, but it was quite a mess and adrenaline rush. Lots of amazing scenery and a touching memorial to Terry Fox, a true Canadian Hero!! We took a fair amt of pics and I will post them when I can.
This position will allow me to work in both the water and wastewater field. And both of their treatment plants are the same type that I studied in school, so their is a familiarity with these systems. The interview went very well(one of the gentlemen said so) and was about an hour long. Im glad we made the trip up as it showed my determination and they said that as well. They know about my other job offer that I verbally accepted so they said they will let me know by today or the beginning of next week.
Another position has been posted in the Windsor/Chatham area that I am applying for, although it may add to the chaos it is a hell of a lot closer than the other 2 places. Round trip was 3800 kms, and done in 4 days with 1 night in a hotel, so I think Connor and I did pretty good!! Thanks again, will post pics when I get a chance.

Steve

The Souix are ok, but I prefer the Fucawee tribe. They wandered across the Great Plains and put their hand over their eyes and looked into the distance and said, "Where the F@ck-are-we?"

They were good friends with the Smack-a-ho tribe also....

Nothing beats a face to face meeting, and the long trip you made shows them you are serious. If it's not the right job, you'll find an even better one. If nothing else it was a time you and your son (and the truck driver) will never forget.

Im used to these whirlwind adventures, and I think Connor is too! Here are some pics, as usual I took crappy pics sorry. Absolutely breath-taking scenery. Pics of the Terry Fox Memorial is stunning, and located just outside of Thunder Bay. I remember seeing him when I was a young teenager and he had a police escort, running in the rain. Something I will always remember. Pics of the moose and wolve sculptures/statues and of Claude Giroux and the war memorial was in Hearst...good thing we stopped to take pics as 1 mile up the road was where the tractor trailer rollover was. Needless to say we didnt need coffee for a while after that! We drove thru a place called Moonbeam....Frank Zappa mighta been the Mayor at one point...town hall has the space ship on the front lawn!
