Historic plates on you vehicles

Here in Missouri we're still required to pay personal property taxes. I don't remember how it works for the plates.
I have relatives that live in Misery. Taxed if they have a boat, car, camper, etc. I'd have to sell a few cars if I lived there... lol

Last I looked I believe the personal propert tax in my county was only 2 dollars on the 65 and not much higher, if any on the 98 and 99.
 
How would they verify the 1,000 miles for personal use if you're allowed unlimited miles for shows and parts runs?
You're supposed to keep a log book. My '93 Ram hasn't spun a digit on the odometer in thirty years. I have a notebook in it with the mileage written over and over. I don't even add the date, because it doesn't matter. I've yet to have a cop ask, but now that I say this....
You are suppose to keep a log of your use I believe. I never have .
I don't know ANY classic-plate owner that does.
I don't blame you for that. Missouri passed the law that everyone has to have insurance but I'm sure that there are some people that still don't have any. I like those barracuda's.
There's a certain demographic of people that don't carry insurance. I'll leave it at that.

You have to have your PP taxes paid to get plates. I had several vehicles that I didn't plate for many years, and I just forgot to tell the state about them. They're starting to cross-check titles against what you claim, though. F'en computers.

I have eleven cars, all but one are historic plates. I paid $95 last year; I just looked it up. They don't go by collector value so once they hit a certain age, it's just 'old'.
 
Reading all of these posts really, really makes me glad I live in Ohio.
Historic Vehicle basic plates are $25 and are good for 50 YEARS. That's not a typo, they're good for 50 years. You can "marry" a year tag (in Ohio they only go up to 1974) to your historic tag for no charge. No log books, nothing. You're not supposed to the car as a daily driver, but there is no limit on mileage at all.
No annual property taxes to pay to get tags either. You only pay sales tax when you buy your car.
I was bitching because the tag fee on my truck was $82 while my cars was $45.
I can't see Ohio pulling that kind of stunt in the near future, there was nearly a lynching when they tried to pull E-Check a few years back. It was eliminated in Ohio except in Cleveland.
 
in NJ to get historic tags the car "must be at least 25 years old and used only for exhibition and educational purposes." to and from repairs are also ok.. many use them on daily drivers though... you would have to have a real douche cop bust you driving with them though. especially during summer months when there are multiple shows every night. they are one time registration fee. 41 bucks or so. after that you get a new registration at no cost every 3 or so years. no inspection needed either which i think is foolish. they should atleasdt require a safety inspection in my opinion. lots of unsafe junk out there running historic tags these days..

our dart is the only one that has historic tags on it.
my 08 mustang isn't old enough
and didn't want to be restricted on our 74 C10 so we went regular tags.,

the dart and mustang both have collector car insurance on them which is the most important thing. insure your stuff for as much as they allow.. these cars continue to go up in value and so many are under insured.

a friend just got t-boned in his late 70 camaro. clean car. only insured for 12k i think he said.. its going to be totaled, and its not hit all that bad. should have been insured at 20k and maybe more.

I was given a set of Pioneer sealed in wrapper, I opened it up and was surprised. The numbers are my birth date! Now hanging on shop wall

Oh, a dinND, NO annual inspections and many "test pipes" where catalytic converters used to live!
 
Louis L'amour grew up a few blocks from my parents house. I used to walk by it on the way to school!
we passed through Jamestown whenever we went to see my Dad's folks in Lignite. Dad always stopped at the truck stop along 94 and get a Hot Beef.. lol
 
WV, 37bux for 10 years.
Weekend restricted but can take to a shop for repairs etc. any day.
Also, any day test and tune, I can see that being taken advantage of:lol:

I had historic persoalized plates on a car before I sold it. They were [ FORMLA S ] . I had to renew those because they were personalized. Got my new plates and I thought they were too pretty to put on and just kept my expired ones on. I got stopped running around town. I told that to LEO and he didn't fine me but told me to put the right ones on before I go out the next time.

The guy I bought my plate from does this for a living and gave me all the paperwork that I needed including a copy of the statute stating that the tag was real and only one was necessary in 1970. Here's mine along with my vintage KY102 sticker. No driving log for me either.

FL "antique" plates are $38 a year with absolutely no restrictions.

This is a great deal on trucks as "regular" plates are billed by weight.

I hadn't either, until I read the actual law about running "YOM" (year of manufacture) plates.

Might be worth checking into.

Yeah, I have an 86 Ford ranger with an antique tag, I personally don't consider an 86 an antique, what the heck it's a cheap tag.
 
Check your state laws.

In FL, you can run a "year correct" vintage plate, but it can not be altered in any way, including repainting.

You make a good point. However, I will not be checking to see if that pertains to Mo. I do know that I am required to keep my plate in a presentable condition and I will abibe by that by doing what is required to keep me in compliance with that. That will be done by protecting my plate by repainting it . A person can't be too careful, ya know. :)

If it's done correctly and no attempt is made to conceal or change the numbers, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. Police around here have more things to do than concern themselves with the originality of sixty year old license plates. Good luck!

KY 102 was great!

Now 99.7KY is gone, 98.9 went totally corporate, and only 101 The Fox is left, but minus Skid Roadie.

I just listen to my thoughts when I drive, now.
 
You might also want to check if someone else has already registered those same numbers, as they were reissued each year.

These are things I have found out while doing my own due diligence prior to paying for plates and//or trying to tag a vehicle at the DMV.

Might save someone a headache or even a ticket.
