Led Lights

So bottom line to the guys that tried LEDs, are they worth the price, hassle and looks?

Previously someone posted brighter filament bulbs as options.

I think the tough part is that brighter filaments are only half of the equation. You need a good housing for those filaments as well so that the beam is focused where it does the most good. And it sounds like most companies have been using the same tooling to make sealed beam lights for the past several decades as they aren't really mainstream anymore, so they don't want to invest in updating it since they are really only aftermarket parts now.

I got a set of Philips LEDs that I've been pretty happy with as recommended by SlantSixDan. They aren't super expensive either, I think ~$60 an assembly. Granted that's significantly more expensive than cheapo $10 sealed beams, but nothing like the $300 an assembly you would pay for the super premium stuff.

Pushed back to August, and from the details I got, that sounds likely to be the actual timeframe. Speaking as a (former) product development manager…delays like this happen!

I bought dash light LEDs off Amazon that were highly rated. They have worked good for about 5 years and are much brighter. If you leave one regular bulb somewhere, like a radio, your dash light dimmer will still work.

I bought led taillights the same way and they are also much brighter and have worked well for awhile. I left the front turn signals alone so my flashers would still work. Don’t forget that there are two different flashers for turn signals and emergency flasher.

I changed the dome lights to led and they are obnoxiously bright.

I don’t like the look of led headlights, so I didn’t change those. Don’t need to worry about safety issues that way either.

Except probably not the ways they need to be, because this isn't a simple matter of brighter/dimmer. It's a lot more complex than that.
