My 69 swinger , 340 , 4spd , currently has Radial Ta 20570R14 tires . I want to change to redline tires . I know I can use 21570R14 tires on the stock 5.5” rim . This will have no clearance issues . What is the largest tire I can fit in the stock well . 22560R14 would be nice . I have seen them on 70 swingers . Perhaps the well is larger than the 69 ?
Feedback would be appreciated.
Mopar or no car
Thanks !

If you are sticking with the 5.5 wide wheel that might be the deciding factor on a wider tire.

I run 245/60/14 B.F.G. Radial T/A’s on factory rallyes on my ‘69 Dart Swinger 340.
That's a lot of bulge?

BFG says they want 7" minimum.

I am using stock steel rims with poverty caps . Car is matching numbers built to the tag . I have ralleye rims but prefer the steel rims

Front? Rear? Same on both or staggered?

A 225/70/14 will fit in the back, but at 26.3” tall I wouldn’t recommend it for the front. 225/60/14 needs a 6” wide rim per the manufacturer, and that’s a short tire at only 24.6” tall. Not a good choice IMO.

235 60 14 ralleys fit easy

You can fit 255’s on some cars with the right backspace for your axle/brake combination, but they won’t work on a 5.5” rim. Same for 235/60/14’s. 6.5” rim is the manufacturer minimum for those, wider tires on narrow rims just give you a lousy contact patch, tire wear and handling.

I run a 225x70 14" on the rear and a 215x70 14" on the front of a 1969 340 swinger. They are mounted on 5.5 inch wide factory steel wheels. Back in the day I had 14" crager SS 7" wide rim with a 245x60 (G60) on the rear and 14" crager SS 6" wide rim with 225x78 (F78) on the front. Car was jacked up, air shocks, shackles, shock extensions. All on the same car (69 swinger). Not necessarily safe but that's what we did in the '70s.

On my swinger I had 235-60-15. When I switched to big bolt pattern the tires were too close to the wheel lip. I ended up going with 225/60/15 and they fit decent. Its still close but not close enough that I have to worry about ripping the quarter panel off. The swingers have horrible wheel clearance.

I ran 245/60/14s on stock 5.5 inch Ralleyes for years. Yes there was some bulge, but in about 12 years, I had no problems.
