My story starts in 1974 when I purchased my Swinger from a friend of mine. An original 4 speed low option car with standard black bench interior, red paint and a white stripe. It did have factory hood pins a wood grain wheel and bumperettes. I immediately painted it hemi orange with gold pearl and did a 70's diamond tuck interior. I drove it 5 years and made a decision to turn it into a show car :banghead:. After a lot of time and money and the beginning of a family I decided to bring it back to street condition as a fun car with low gears, a stout 340 and a Super Stock hood:burnout:. I almost made it and sold the car in 1990 unfinished but running when my son was born. I hated to see it go but the nagging was way out of hand at home. I missed my car and wanted it back badly but had lost touch through the years where it went. Fast forward to 2004. A guy called that had tracked me down through the title and was thinking of buying it. I gave him all the info and asked him to give me the sellers name if he decided not to buy. Two weeks later I was loading my baby on a trailer and bringing it home. I was single now and swore never to sell the car again. I started on it a year later, remarried in 2008 (yes my new wife likes cars) Work slowed for a couple of years while my wife battled cancer but now she is better and I'm back on it. She supports my work and we hope to finish it in 2013. Sorry for the long story, but how many times do you sell a car, kick yourself in the *** then get it back 15 years later? This has been my love affair with my Dart. The following pics are from 1974. I'll post more from the second rebuild and then show where I'm at today.

Cool story and what a stroke of luck to have a prospective buyer contact you about the car then decide not to buy it.
I really dig the 70's interior, does it still have that?

Ok, here's some pics from the second time around. Put the car back together and painted it Hemi Orange for the second time. Built a steel Super Stock hood. Rebuilt the 340, ported the X Heads, Added a 750 Dbl Pumper Holley, Strip Dominator Intake, 4:56 Gears & Hooker headers. I got to test drive it a few times and it was a solid 12 second car. No track time but ran really strong with the mods and gears. Never got to finish it and add wheels and tires. Sold it to a good friend, he finished it and sold it. Lost track of it for 15 years after that. Heart Breaking:banghead:

Hey 67GTConvert
When i got the car back in 2005 the diamond interior was all there, but well worn. I must decide next year which way to go with this. Thanks for the look. I have a lot more to post on the current progress.

The alter-k is awesome. You'll love it..

Did you get the power steering option? That is really nice.

This is how I received my car back after 15 years. I had to replace the trunk floor pan as the previous owner cut it up to install a square plastic cell :angry5:. I saved the car just in time. There was more wrong than right with the car. Amazingly the motor I built in the late 80's was all there and running. I ran into a guy at a cruise night that owned the car for a short period of time, other than that I have no idea who had it or what was done to it except what was obvious. More to come.

abody, No I stayed with the manual. Stay tuned and you'll see pics of my installation. I spent the money on the 11" DISC BRAKES.

The work begins. It takes a long time doing this sh!@ by yourself. My son did help with some of the dis-assembly. The rest I was on my own.

I tried to give them away at a swap meet and nobody wanted them. I kept them to remind me why I shouldn't own a Chevy or any other GM car. I have them hidden in the attic so my Mopar friends don't see them.

Time to do some paint and body. This series of pics took about 16 months to complete. I don't paint flames so I had a guy who does all the old school stuff paint the car. You;ll see what I mean by the refrig pic. The color is Seikens base tint orange with a 4:1 ratio of gold pearl. The old guy named it Tequila Sunrise. I just can't seem to get away from orange and pearl. Oh well that's the color the car has know almost all of its life.

And more work brings me closer to paint.

It's paint time. After 14 months and lots of hard work. I used bed liner in the trunk for a great finish. All the torsion bars and brackets were ripped out, so I found a donor car at the junk yard.
