New 2024 Electric Charger Scat Pack!

-
My girlfriend drives a MachE. She says it eats tires from normal use. AWD and heavy.

That wouldn’t discourage me. 4 wheels n motor and it hauls the mail!!!
That’s what my sister has. When they were here recently I got a pretty sedate ride with my BIL driving, and after I kidded him on his stately, “old lady “ driving manners, at the next stop sign he mashed it. Surprised the hell outta me!

From what I can tell, electric cars seem to get 2-4 miles per kilowatt hour. The Scatpack seems to be on the bottom end at 2 something probably.

I have never cared about gas mileage on muscle cars, so I planning on not caring about kilowatt hours either. I have done math my whole career and plan on stopping now……
Thank you. I'm kind of a math nerd so I enjoy these types of comparisons. Not saying it's the case with you and your new car, but I think the draw for a lot of people who buy EVs is the supposed reduced operating cost. At 2 miles per kWh and $0.50 per kWh (which is about what I pay), that's equivalent to paying about $5 a gal for a 20 mpg vehicle - so pretty comparable to a gas counterpart. Regardless, I bet it's a fun putt around town type of car. Enjoy the hell out of it.

Personally, I'd have a hard time paying $10k to rent a car for 2 yrs. But then again, my daily driver is just an old Dakota.

Batteries are 8 year warranty, so I think I am good there. I agree on not buying an electric car. Seems high risk.

I do like odd / unusual cars, so this one fits the bill. I think I have seen one on the road so far. I am also getting old enough that I want to drive more and work on them less.

I used to like the 5-15K toy cars that were driver quality & I could work on them. Those have been gone since Covid. Those cars are now 25-30k for a decent driver. A lot more for something a little more special.

My 10k total investment on this one kind of puts me back in my sweet spot. Seems like I would spend 5-10k on just about anything I bought anyway.

Classic car prices are crazy. Since a nice 70 challenger is about 50k now, a late model scat pack challenger makes a lot of sense in comparison. The old car part of the hobby is just about pricing me out of the market.

This car is also too wide to fit on my lift, not to mention the 6000 lb weight. I don’t think I will ever be under it.

See post #33 & 34.
Your money factor is .00028 which comes out to .672% interest. That is a killer deal !
Probably won’t be worth residual at lease end unless gas goes through the roof ( which I suspect it will). But who cares… just turn it back in . You will have to pay a $300 disposal fee at lease end unless. Hard to own a nice modern car for that much . Congratulations! You will love it !
Not all but some leases are a good way to go .
I sold a guy a $230,000 Acura NSX and recommended that he lease it because the rates were so low that he was essentially floating Honda Motor Credits money for 36 months . And if it were to be involved in a substantial accident ( which all are on a car like that ) he would be shielded from depreciation due to the car history. His only obligation was to have his insurance company pay for the repairs. At lease end he could turn it back in and walk away .

I would never buy an electric car at this point, but leasing one seems to be low risk. My buyout price is ~50k on an 80k car. I bet it is worth about half of that in 2 years. It won’t be a daily driver for me, just a fun car.
$80k?????? OMG...

I think leasing was a whole lot less riskier then buying one. I think resale on those will be in the toilet. I like the hatchback feature and over all styling is pretty good

The haters have never driven an electric car. Go drive one then make an assessment.
I don't eat fake steak like the vegetarians, I don't boink a blow up doll like import car owners, I don't care for AI pictures and I don't have any interest in an electric car no matter how it performs.
The new Charger is a decent looking car. I like it more than the previous Charger 4 door. A Hemi car or even the straight six turbo at least makes some real engine sounds. The EV versions with the BS fake noise "Fratzonic Exhaust" is insulting to any real car enthusiast.
Every car that I drive, every truck that I own has a V8 with rumbling exhaust, even the late model stuff. The sound and vibrations are part of the experience for me. I don't want fake noise and I don't want total silence in a car I'm driving. It just smacks of civility, a man losing his masculinity or dare I state the obvious...a chick type of car. I wouldn't even want one for a rental unless the only option was a bicycle.

So you base your masculinity on the type of propulsion your car is powered by ?
List the masculine things you’ve done lately ….
I do agree that fake noise is asinine .

I base my masculinity on many things. The car is but one of them.
Are you looking for a man? Sorry, I'm not into dudes, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Yeah. Electric care are the Glocks of the car world.

Here's what an electric race car can really do. And this was way back in 2013. He's made some changes and gotten into the 9s I believe now.

Check out my new ride! I have never been an electric car fan, but the lease on this was so dirt cheap I couldn’t help myself. Leased it for 24 months.

Easily the fastest coolest car I have ever had. 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, 11.5 second 1/4 mile.

They have gotten a lot of bad press, and they are ridiculously overpriced, but it is one of the nicest cars I have driven. This one was $80k sticker. Nobody is buying them and some dealers are getting desperate to unload them. The fake exhaust sounds are kind of hokey, but I am starting to like them.

Time will tell if it was a good idea…..

One good thing about a lease is that when it is done, you just hand in the car.... you aren't stuck with it if it turns out to be a POS

Well, I like it. In fact, I'm really an electric vehicle fan. I think it's where we are headed, the technology just isn't there yet. That said, I think we all agree that nothing will ever replace the rumble of a V8 or the heard of pissed off bumble bees of a slant 6.

The internal combustion engine for me is more than just a source of propulsion for my car it is my hobby it's a big part of my history it was a passion of my friends and forefathers who gathered in garages, under trees on back streets and country roads to hear the roar of our motors and the controlled chaos that is a combustion motor it was intertwined in the best times of our life and the worst and if you don't understand that and if all you see is a technical advantage of an electric car then you were never really part of that nor will you ever be sucks to be you. Or maybe it just is great to be us!

I sold high line cars for 25 yrs.
BMWs, Audi , Acura , Porsche ,Range Rovers ,Jags , Mercedes and Lexus . I have driven 911 Turbos , AMGs , M series , Acura NSXs , Farrari and more on street and on tracks . While these cars are obviously very fast I still get more enjoyment out of my muscle cars. But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the prowess of modern high performance cars and that includes EVs. They are fast and silky smooth ! The fake noise stuff is just stupid …. Same with buying a cam just for sound. IMO…
It’s much like a sport bike vs a Harley . Both are fun to ride but for different reasons.

As I understand it, the fake exhaust noise can be turned off. Not sure where I heard that though so can't confirm.
