A few weeks ago a job transfer came through the company I work for. I knew it was a long shot but I applied for it anyway. I was up for the challege and the change. There was also the issue of me getting laid off this summer and having to pay over $1000 for health insurance over the summer. I didn't know how we were going to get by. So I decided to leave my teaching job for something totally different. I got the call yesterday that I got the transfer. I am so excited. More money and I get to work during the summer. I know I am crazy but you got to do what you got to. Anyway I don't have to worry about getting hit, kicked, and spat at no more. But I will miss the kids very much. When I mentioned it to them yesterday they just looked at me and laugh. Two of them said I don't believe you and I don't trust you. Then they said they weren't coming back to school anymore. My new job which I start March 29 will have a lot of traveling and I will be helping child care centers, ministries, and home day cares improve the quality of their center. Wish me luck!!

Good luck. Does this mean we will be seeing more parts getting pt on the darts? :D I tried to tell my wife that when I got my last pay raise but we bought a new house instead. LOL

Congrats Betty! Sorry to hear your leaving teaching, but my wife & me are friends with a couple that are both teachers and we understand your frustration. No respect from the kids (and parents at times...) long hours, low pay, crazy responsibility. Plus here in NYC the teacher can be brought up for disciplinary action for the most frivolous things.... like telling a child to shut up and behave.

Good luck with the new job!

It is frustrating and the bad thing is I am only a preschool teacher. Our program is free (Head Start) and parents use us as their personal babysitter. Bring the children at all hours and then pick them up an hour or so later after their errands our done. Behavior problems I won't miss. We just had two teachers put on suspension for "child abuse" allegations. They were cleared and are back at work. Our agency is currently installing web cams in all the rooms to watch us. Parts of me are so glad to be out of there.

Congrads and best of luck with the new gig.

Think of it like this ABB. Indirectly you will still be helping the kids without having to take the crap that some want to dish out. Use your head. You'll do fine at it because you care. That's the key.

Wow..I was told that there was a major difference between can and the US but didn't think is was that bad..teachers up here have a very strong union, are well paid, great retirement benifits and fantastic pension,..wish I had gone that route :(

Good luck with your new job,..I know what it feels like to be home

Good luck ABB. Change is good. My brother in law and his wife are both teachers in Cinci. and they were just told that they have no idea what there retirement funds are even worth at the moment. They are about ready to walk away from something they have done for the last 15 years.

Well, it is now official. People in and out of the office will soon find out. I have already received certain comments from coordinators from previous position. I don't know if they were being sarcastic in telling me congrats are serious. One said well you haven't been happy as a teacher for a long time. I was like no that is not right. Another one said you will be giving up a lot of evenings. I felt like saying yeah and I will be giving up all the abuse I take from the kids and other things I won't mention. My parents and children are upset I won't be back. I will miss them and sorry they are sad but for once I have got to think about what I want. This is what I want!!
