New to the Forum and Need Some Advice?

Hello, everybody, I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping to pull the trigger on a 1967 full
resto-mod Dodge Dart. I know its one thing to bench race, but I wanted to get a general ball park figure on what this car would run in the quarter mile. Listed below is the gist of the modifications and I was told that the current engine was taken from a 1968 Challenger and it was a Hi-Po. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Another question I have is what is a fair asking price for a car like this the car has had everything done to it and from what I've seen is mint. Being I'm new to the A-bodies I'd like to know the current asking price is $23,500. There are a bunch of other things that have been done to the car and it is rust free. However I want to know if the price is reasonable. Any advice would be greatly appreicated.

Here are the specs.

383HP and a 727 torqueflight and a 3.73 Locking rear axle . The engine has been built by local machine shop and is a standard bore , flat top piston with a 10/10 steel crank and 906 heads .Transmission rebuilt by trans shop with Kevlar clutches and bands , new converter and shift kit. It also has a Holley 670 Avenger , dbl-pumper sits on an Edelbrock Performer intake and is fed by a Holley-Blue pump , MSD ignition with Firecore billet distributor and HD Firecore plug wires deliver the spark . Schumacher TRI-Y headers dump into a 2 1/2" H-pipe dual exhaust.
 
High to mid 13's would be my guess! And without seeing the car, it's going to be tough to give a ballpark orice for it! Things like the interior, engine bay, suspension upgrades and such can make $1000's of dollars in difference in the price! Given the description above, and not speculating on the rest, it's about a $12k car! Pics would go a long way to deciphering what you have here!!

interesting choice of hose routing on that car

i dont see a blowermotor or A/C compressor

not saying its not there, or not impressive, just saying, i dont see it

Sorry, but this doesn't look like the engine compartment for a $23k vehicle to me. He's done a lot of nice things to the car but also a lot of things that are very specific to his taste. I don't care for the road wheels and six pack hood for example. Just my opinion, but I don't think the guy selling is the one who built the car and he's trying to get his money back out of it because he's bored with it now. I'd chop him off at the knees and offer $15k tops.

Can you give me some reasons based on your observation the evaluation of the car
 
I also don't see anything that would constitute it being "fully restored"!! The dash is a mess, the pistol grip shifter, which would be correct for a 4 speed, is cobbled into the console of an automatic car! And, shall we dwell on the engine compartment for a moment?? Painted alternator, coil mounted to what?? Hoses going thru the inner fenderwell??

When I see shoddy workmanship like this, I wonder what other corners have been cut to "just finished" status! Like, no mention of how the 14" large bolt pattern road wheels made it on to a car with small bolt pattern!! Clearly, this is not a person familiar with Chrysler products, and from the ad appears to be a flipper, or a classic car dealer!!

My estimate stands at $12k, it has some nice pieces, but is too cobbled up to sell for anywhere near $23k!! Sorry bud, but there are much better examples for that kind of money out there!

See cosgig's post above. Little things like the paint coming off the Champion radiator and the coil bracket doesn't lead me to believe that this was a quality build.
 
The junction block, aftermarket gauges, and lack of a mopar wiper motor lends itself to the car being rewired with who knows what and the quality of the install. The description of the engine build is basically a ring and bearing job. The Performer intake and 670 carb goes with that. No such thing as a 670 Avenger double pumper. The paint looks good, but the bodywork is way less then stellar. The right door looks extremely wavy. The quarters don't look much better. It's what's not said that catches my attention in this add.

simple car mathematics...money dumped into a car devaluates quicker then the economy under obummer

but take a look at what you see (and for crying out loud, if you are planning on buying this car look underneath it, bring a magnet and try to find out what is hidden in this add)

painted the alternator, but used a piece of scrap metal as a coil hold down?

looks like that "custom made gauge dash" is a cheap over lay bolted in from the front...looks cheaply done, doesnt it?

look at that electrical strip just passed the MSD box (and why why WHY isnt that box sitting half an inch further back so it sits completely on the fender and not hang over like it does now?) but see all those exposed electrical hook ups?

look at the way they covered up the heaterblower hole, slapped a piece of metal in and zipscrewed it in place.

listen Rem, were all here because we love these little old mopars, and we'd want nothing more for you then to have a one, or two...but if this car is going to be your first foray into the wonderful world of mopar, and it turns out to be an overpriced cobbled together piece of junk, the only one going to be happy is the seller

But a little back history is that my old man served in Vietnam and suffered a stroke due to reasons I shall not list stemming from his service in the military. So more than anything this is something for both of us as he is paralyzed on the left hand side, but can get around with a hemi-walker. I wanted the last few years he has on this earth getting to enjoy some quality time riding in what he was raised around and spending time wrenching away even if I'm doing all the work. I want to say I apologize for any dumb questions I may have asked, but I wanted to make sure I did my due diligence as to not get involved in a mess. So once again thank you all for the advice and I guess my journey shall continue till I find the right one.

We understand, and greatly sympathize with you and your Dad! I would love nothing more than to have you and your Dad tooling around the streets of your area in a nice, dependable ride! And I agree with all of the above statements, it's not what this ad says, it's what it doesn't say that bugs me!!

As for your questions, they are all perfectly legit and warranted!! This is a big decision, and big money to be spending, best to ask as many questions as you can before jumping in! Keep an eye on the autos for sale here in the classifieds, there are many members here who sell quality cars for realistic prices! If you have $23k to spend, you can get one heck of a car for that!!!

Agreed. and even at 15k, thats high in my opinion. Restomod? nah, more like crappy restoration with a few aftermarket parts.

spray painted alternator, cheapy chrome valve covers that are guaranteed to leak, 10 dollar air filter lid from Autozone(K&N knockoff/copy but much poorer in quality) throttle return spring looks to be stretched, whats with the spark plug wires resting against the shock bolts. which are covered with a spark plug boot?, spark plug wires routed to rest on the back of the alternator, terminal junction block by the brake booster. If i had to guess, the engine was never rebuilt. but spray painted in the car to make it look rebuilt. as for quarter times, high 13s would be lucky as that looks like a bone stock 383.

We wont steer you wrong. My advice and it appears the advice of others, no more than 12-15 grand tops, if that. I'd walk away from it. And if you do decide to try and buy it, get proof of everything he claims is on the car via receipts. Receipts for engine work, parts, etc. if he cant provide those, assume it doesnt have the parts he claims. Especially in regards to the engine/trans/rearend.
 
Welcome to the site. I can appreciate the rationale for wanting a fun car. Thanks for your dad's service (and yours by virtue of being family). However, looking at this car - there are enough things that make me go "Hmmm" that I would only make an offer after driving it. If everything is done to a good level, it's probably a high teens car. But I see some things that make me feel like some is not what it appears. Not meaning to disparage a seller. Just my opinion. I think, if you have $20K to spend, you can get a much nicer, better documented example. Maybe not a big block, but a really nice example that wil serve you both well for a very long time.
