I have recently seen "No Guns" signs on Post office entrance doors and a few business's. Is this a legal ban or just a suggested request? I just ignore them because I have read the Constitution and have a CCP.

not sure in your area, we have them posted at work, here in ohio place's can ban you from having them, even tho we can pack it bars and national parks now, go figure.

Here in PA where we also have open carry (but MUCH wiser to have a CCW) a business can ask you to leave if they see you are carrying. They can post a sign too, but I never have seen one.

They tend to ban them from goverment run places that have a habit of pissin people off.
Banned in the motor vehicle dept here also.
The thing is, if I had one with me they wouldn't know it anyway.

They would know when you walk through the metal detector at the
Allegheny County court house......and they wouldn't be happy since you would have passed two signs saying guns are prohibited. lol

If you carry you need to check state law. There is definately places you can NOT carry by law. In Idaho, ANY private business that "properly posts" (signage) their business/ property can establish LEGAL basis for you leaving your weapon somewhere else under "no trespassing" laws. This is, as they say, "an arrestable offence"

The irony? Remember that Colorado theater shooting? That theater chain company policy is keeping customers weapons out. Might have been a different outcome

I was compelled to "lie" some time ago in my local hospital which has a catch 22 situation. Here you are, you have your sidearm, or maybe only your leatherman tool, and you have ended up in the emergency room, either by yourself or by help from someone else.

It was "made clear" to me when they asked me if I possessed any guns or knives, that they were

A.......not allowed on premises and would have to be confiscated

B......there did not seem to be any provision for storage or return

or the correct answer.......

C.....You DON'T have any guns or knives, DO you?

I realize you are in PA, this is from the Idaho Ag

Are there places where I cannot carry a concealed weapon even with a license? Yes. You may not carry a concealed weapon in a courthouse, juvenile detention facility, adult correctional facility, prison, jail, public school or private school.
Federal law may prohibit you from carrying a weapon in places such as federal courthouses and airports.
If you have any doubt, you should contact the government entity prior to carrying a weapon onto its premises.

May I carry a concealed weapon in private businesses that are open to the public?
Yes, unless the private business, which is open to the public forbids carrying weapons on the business premises. Private businesses are within their rights to prohibit weapons on their property.

Private businesses can prohibit weapons on their property, BUT is it an arrestable offense IF caught????

Gun what gun? Ask me no questions and I will tell you know lies. Unless they have a metal detector no one is the wiser.

In this state it seems to be related to tresspass, and you know how ridiculous those laws can get......public nuisance, disturbing the peace, etc, very very vague, and applicable "if we can't think of anything else."

When in doubt lock it in the car. Or carry something similar to what I do, as long as your don't have a pair of tight fitting chick style jeans on no one will see it in your pocket......hell, I used to carry one of these on me in the PO......for years....only on the days I was going to see my Tattoo guy. Used to have to go thru one of the worst parts of Phoenix to get there.....Maryvale....

Try walking in any Federal property with your gun displayed, you want like it, no matter what your rights are.
I had a Field Tech staying at a Indian Casino/Hotel here in Oklahoma, on Federal land, he forgot & laid his pistol on the check-out desk whith his laptop.
The next thing he knew, he was on the ground being hand-cuffed.

Luckly, calmer heads prevailed.
He explained that the door locks on his Service truck were broke & he had been keeping his gun in his room safe.
They confirmed his story, returned his gun & give him a lecture.

Our company also posts "No Guns Allowed" at all branches, we have 8 in 6 states.

I seem to remember a news story about a lady (I want to say she was a veteran) who had a valid CCW from the state in which she was a resident
she went to visit ground zero and when she saw a sign that said no guns she approached the nearest police officer and asked him where she could check her gun
the officer promptly arrested her for carrying a concealed weapon since the sign said "no guns"

(found a news link but I don't know if this is a reliable source)

Most times if I see a sign telling me I can't carry, I will keep on walking.

So do you think a criminal will heed the sign?

Better yet, such signs sort of tell the criminals where the unarmed people are. lol

as for the original poster, go ahead and ignore the sign you saw at the post office, obviously that wasn't intended for you but for the employees
"HAH" <---( be sure to read that in your Gordon Shumway voice)

The woman who got arrested in New York pled guilty to a misdemeanor gun possession charge. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york...orial-misdemeanor-plea-deal-article-1.1046815

nice to see some leniency in this case (usually they reserve that for murderers)

as for the no gun signs...im glad to see we don't have a ton of long haired freaky people on here, or one of them no doubt would have posted this video

It is federal law that no weapons are allowed in any federal building, including post offices, courthouses, etc. If you want to lose your CCW license do it and if you get caught it can be a felony. Leave it in your vehicle.
