Not so much a clone Hemi Dart

Still plugging away! Checked P/V in a few different cam installs to see what options I have. Cam calls for a 110 install. 106 would be max, that puts me down at .090 on the intake. I plan to run it at 110, just wanted to check it incase i don’t like it at 110. Installed a gear drive, that was pretty straight forward once once you get the lash set. It was used so I had to buy some parts for it. Luckily I ended up with 2 sets of dowels. One set wasn't machined correctly and would have caused a huge headache. I might not figured that out without having the other set to look at.

Had a few things to rectify, I think it’s ready to go together now. Exhaust push rods were too close to the block and the fillets in the crank were grabbing the main bearings ever so slightly. And she got some paint!! Time to rock!

Progress is slow.. life

fit the scraper, made a timing pointer, worked over the oil pump cover, cleaned the heads...

Been a few months, spent a few hours on it the last couple days. Lost 1/2 my lash caps with the move. Waiting on those now. Should have it wrapped up pretty shortly.

That's real nice, man. I'd have to fix that bad boy back up just like your dad had it. It was a badass 70s beast.

that’s a great question… lol

Let you know when I decide. Currently leaning towards the cross ram

I started off with the Barton single plane and a 1250 Dominator. Sure worked great. I ended up switching to the Mopar Cross Ram and 770’s. For the wow factor.. I did a lot of port and epoxy work to the cross ram and while it works fabulous, I’ve sure got a hefty surge at idle like a blower motor. I’ve been able to tame it down some with jetting but it’s still there. It’s an attention getter. I’m ok with it.

mine had a surge as well when we put it my first combo. My dad was doing the carb work back then. He was able to work the surge out of it. Guessing he probably opened up the IFR’s but I can’t say for certain. It street drove great after that.

I got the same crank scraper from Kevin for my Hemi. Looks like the holes in yours at the back of the block fitted better than mine.. I was a little annoyed about how far out mine were. Next one I do, I'm going to make my own.

I had to work several of mine as well.

and a lot of other **** that’s wasn’t working on the dart.. I will probably dyno it and then get it in the car. I’m tied up with work through July now…

That pic with the dial gauge and the rocker gear on.
I've made some steel plates that bolt onto the rocker cover rail so I can check a few cylinders if I need to. Comes in handy some times.

I guess I should clarify a bit. Mine run the length of the rail. Sometimes I like to check piston to valve on a few cylinder and got sick of moving the plate.

I build so many different types of motors I never put the effort in to make one just for a big mopar. Although as many wedges as I build it’s not a bad idea.

You’ve got a lot of stuff going on over there! That looks like a 283 sitting beside your mammoth hemi!
A very nice runner there, and that Hurst stick sure takes me back.
Are your hemi valve covers from Indy? I like the satin finish like you have. But thanks for the update. Nice to see all the progress.
