Good thing is no one was hurt.
A similar thing happened to me a couple of Fridays ago when ab F-150 slid ringt into my lane on a hill and swerved into the sidewalk/front lawn to try and miss him. He caught my left rear 1/4 just in front of the bumper. He hit the woman behind me head-on. Wrote off her Mazda mini van. No one hurt really, Thank God. Mine is all fixed and no money out of my pocket.

Here's some pics, doesnt look like much...but the door was folded quite a bit. Wish my camera was with me at the time. Power everything in the door, locks, mirror, window..its gonna be a ***** whomever fixes it. Putting a new door on is easy, but I hope there isnt anything structural in the cab pillar. You can see where the hinge has been pulled away from the cab...

Got nailed in a parking lot twice, both times was told that the lots I was in were private property and my/there insurance would not cover it, needed to talk to the property owner.

This is not correct. I also was an insurance Broker and Can promise you this:
Parking lot accidents are 50% at fault for both drivers In Most states. You will end up with an insurance increase in many cases and also end up paying the deductible. It's always better to get the person to just pay you out of pocket if they'll agree.
Not trying to argue but I studied this stuff extensively.

This is not correct
We have "no fault" insurance here, and comprehensive covers you with no future penalty as long as you catch the bastard. With some companies, this is a one time only claim, and your next one raises your rates. Just went through this with my daughters VW.
 
^ I'm kind of curious whether the door was across the line into 'the bastard's' parking spot when the impact happened.
 
I have no ideal who is at fault.

I was thinking about it wondering whos at fault in that situation and I'm still not sure. But looking at it from another way, say being parked in the street and opening a door that gets hit from a passing car or bicycle. Seems that it would be the fault of the parked vehicle. I don't know just thinking out loud.
 
Laws are different in Canada just as they are different state to state in the US. If this was in Oklahoma, it would be Lori's fault hands down because she would have been inattentive. There would be no ticket because it was on private property. At best his insurance company would pay 50% for your truck and your insurance company would pay 50% on any damage to the trailer. You would both be stuck with your deductibles to pay. Again this is Oklahoma not Canada so I am just sharing what would happen here.
 
Thanks goodness she was clear of the accident, nothing else really matters.

There are so many variables in a situation like this, I'd need actual footage (probably from more than one angle?) to make an impartial ruling.

Got ya. I was thinking in USA but Canada is hopefully different. I hope it works out for you. USA insurance Companies are quite the pricks IMO. They kept raising my Sisters rates because of "Too Many" theft claims. Where she lived was a high auto theft area.

Looks like there is a slight pull on the door pillar since there looks like a gap between the hinge and the pillar. A sledge hammer and some flat strap metal may be able to fix it easy enough. White door shouldn't be too hard to find used. What year is the truck? I can't see the arm rest to tell for sure but it looks a 2004 back.
 
Personally I think your screwed for any claims Steve JMO,cause it was in a parking lot.Drink the SC then some JD get the bondo out and decorated it.Always check surroundings before opening doors in parking lots.Glad it wasn,t the Cuda.:lol:
 
I wont find out until Wednesday due to the holidays, but when I spoke with the manager of the collision place, he claims that if you are out of the vehicle, you are a pedestrian, and the driver of the other vehicle has to ensure it is safe to proceed.
I called Canadian Tire and they have surveillance, but just have to see if it covers the entire parking lot. I have seen some pretty narrow parking spots, I dont know if there is a "standard" for these on private property or not, but I would have to say that with Loris door open, it would overlap the other parking spot, but not sure.

Okla, the truck is a 2001 4 door, shame though, original paint and body on it...I know sounds weird, but up here the climate is harsh on vehicles
 
Traceys Auto Wreckers Ltd Utopia Can-ON 1-800-461-5407 is showing two doors but they have not listed the color or price. One is a 2001 and the other one is a 2002. They are showing them to be grade A with no damage. Here that would be insurance quality.

There are two good white grade A doors in the states in PA for $500 and $550.
