I have always had Manual cars 5sp and 6sp C****os and never taken the time to learn about the torque converter and stall stuff. Now that I purchased my dart it has a 904 in it and I plan on keeping it but as I build my new motor I guess now would be a good time to learn about these so I can choose the correct application when it goes back together.

I know you guys know about this stuff so any insight into this would be great

Thanks again!

I don't know much about the 904 either, I had an older one rebuilt and the shop showed me it had 3 planetaries on aluminum frames and suggested it be upgraded to 4 planetaries with steel frames to go behind my 340. I think the 727 has the 4 planetaries. I think he charged me 40.00 apiece for the planetaries. While it was down I also had a shift kit and a 1000 over stock converter installed ( which I believe is about 2600 stall). He has several pro racecars and highly recommended not putting a manual valve body in for the street. Thats the little I know, Walt

I'm running a 3000 stall in my built 340 - 727 with stage 3 shift kit. Depending on what you want to do with your car should determine what stall you should have. A stock stall is very nice and smooth on the street where as a higher stall works more aggressively at the track.
Just my opinion as I am no expert.

converter science has come a long way over the years. you can pretty much have the best of both worlds now.. my converter from dynamic will flash to 3800, get 3000 easy on the brake and cruise on the street like a stock converter. they are very efficient. it all has to do with the case size and pitch of the blades among other things... my opinion is not to by an off the shelf converter. go with something like a dynamic, ptc, ultimate and a few others that i can't think of off the top of my head and get one that is built to your combo. in the long run you will be alot happier. call a few of them and see what they say and go with the one your most comfortable with.. the main thing you have to do is be completely honest about the combo, weight of the car and intended use of the car.
