I saw an ad online for a 2 ton engine hoist so I called the guy and picked it up. We hit it off pretty good because he has a '49 International 1 ton, a '67 Dodge D300 383, and a '66 Fairlane GT ragtop. He has a pile of welders and cool tools, and a machine that has every single American made bumper design from the '30's to late '70's, and it'll bend them back into shape if they're dented or twisted or whatever.
Anyways, Dave eventually asked me if I wanted to go look at a '60's Dodge van his friend was selling. I'm always up for looking at an old vehicle, so I followed him to this cedar mill out in the woods and found the van. Neat van, '66 A100, actually pretty solid, /6 with 3 on the tree. The slant had a Clifford 4 bbl, headers, and a Street Demon carb. But the guy wanted $4000, which wasn't worth it to me. He also thought this was a Super Six that was a factory high performance 6 from a '71 Demon.
Dave then said, "Oh I think there's an old Barracuda in the woods back here somewhere," so I asked what year but he didn't know. We walked back and found it, it was a '68 fastback with Formula S emblems on the fenders. The VIN and fender tag match, it's a 340 auto Cuda, high price class. Dave knew the owner and called him for me. The owner, Mike, said he owned the car since the '70's and had dropped a '67 440 in the car and was driving over a mountain pass in '91 and hit black ice. The car spun out and crunched in the entire passenger quarter. He said he wanted to redo the car, but it's been sitting in the woods 15 years and he's on compo. He agreed to sell to me.
I called him yesterday and went by his place to pick up some parts. There's a full Direct Connection quarter, high back buckets with rust free seat tracks, back seats in the same diamond pleated pattern, door panels in the same pattern, center console that's not pitted too bad, 340 call outs that aren't pitted AT ALL, emblems, trim, black carpet, and a pile of fastback specific interior parts. There's also a '69 front clip and a '68 hood with more call outs that he's getting from another house for me. Monday I'll be taking my chain saw to the bush to pull the Cuda out and trailer it home. And yes, the price was right.

I'm excited about the seat pattern because I wanted to do a retro look on the Cuda and this is perfect.

Good find there.

It sure looks like you have your work cut out for you. Hopefully the frame is good on her.

And here's the parts score from yesterday. This will save me a ton of $$$ on my '67 Cuda.

Then I stopped by to see a friend who also has a '68 fastback, and he gave me a pile of '69 notchback trim including back window trim.

I'll post pics of the car when I get it home.

Not sure what I'll do with it yet, depending how rough underneath it may turn into a parts car. Hate me if you want, but at least it'll be saving another instead of being crushed.

Also on the car are the factory wider steels that came on a 340 car and some nice Plymouth dog dishes. Speaking with Mike, he said he pulled the original 3.23's out and installed a Sure Grip 3.73.

"Im going to pick up a car, you got a chainsaw?" Thats a Canadian Classic!

LOL, or a snowplow!! LOL

I know its hard to say without seeing what the underside is like, BUT that looks like a nice project! It looks like a good cleaning will do wonders for it!! Hmmm 69 front end stuff...lemme know what your plans are for that stuff..LOL

Congrats...color is nice too!

Thanks guys. So, a friend and I took a chainsaw, air compressor, spare tire, jack, and chain out to the car in my '75 Ford 4x4. I cut down about 30+ small trees, and had to move a bunch of junk from behind the car. Good thing I brought the spare, the car only had 3 wheels on it, 2 of which held air. Mike, the previous owner, told me that he had broken the passenger leaf spring mount, but the car just needed a mount to be a roller again. Well, turns out somebody cut the leaf completely out, so the car was sitting down on the gas tank, and the drum had sunken into the earth. We jacked up the car, then jacked up the drum, put the spare tire on it, and then had to ratchet strap the axle housing to the spring perch so when we rolled the car, the axle wouldn't move and the tire wouldn't bite into the wheel well. We then put air in the 2 drivers side tires, both which held air. The drivers front wouldn't hold air, and all 3 wheels except the drivers rear were locked up (4 wheel drum) which made steering the car impossible. We hooked the chain up to the truck, and I pulled the car out backwards, then I did a 100 point turn in the bush, and pulled the car out down the trail.
Later that day, my cousin helped me load the car. He just has a handcrank winch on the trailer, which works fine, but is slow. We loaded the car onto the trailer after an hour of effing around with it, and got it home. Once home, I pulled apart the 10" drums and put on a tire that held air. Still hard to steer without any weight in the front, but Carmen and I managed to push it with the truck into the back. Anyways, here's the pics.

Unfortunately, after looking underneath, I'd say the car is a parts car. Both rear frame rails are rotted right through, the torsion bar crossmember is rotten, the front frame rails are borderline OK, and the floorboards are rotten. Somehow the body survived though.

This was out in the bush.

These were taken once I got it home.

And just a small example of the rust.

Nice find Mike.If parting,I,d be interested in the 340S hood callouts and some drivers side trim for my 68.PM if interested in selling...oh the wider rims also. Thanks

I'm keeping the hubcaps, sorry.

I am parting the car out for my own use, but I'm not selling off too many parts, just fastback specific stuff.

I like the rear window chrome , sway bar mmmmmmmmm, yummy stuff.
such a great find.

I am in need of front fenders if for sale. My 68 barracuda
