What is the most I can shave off my 1975 318 cylinder heads and not have to get the intake shaved too match. I plan on rebuilding my heads and want to bump up the compression while I'm at it.

You should always have the intake face of the heads cut at the same time. Your machine shop should include this in their price.

Mark, Chief's right. I have done them in stock rebuilds and had them milled .010 and didn't have any intake alignment issues but that's the most I'd ever chance it. Ive heard on small block heads you need to take .0095 off the intake side for every .010 taken off the block side but that's only what I've read on the forums so check it out first to make sure. Another thing you need to remember is that if you take much off the heads you'll need shorter pushrods to keep the lifter preload correct.
