I am looking into having my 273 bored 30 over (.030 I think). What's the best source for new pistons and matching rings? Cam and bearings also?

Thanks

I’ve got a set of the high compression pistons that are supposed to be.030” over. Still in the block. Let me know if interested.

Call Ross. They will make whatever you want.

Let us know what you did, how much they cost, and your satisfaction with the product

Egge.com should have 273 pistons. 65'
Thanks all.
X2 for Egge. I bought my HP pistons and rings from them. Good stuff. They have 2 and 4 barrel slugs.

Something to keep in mind. The factory advertised stock compression ration on a 273 2bl was 8.8 to 1. Given your specs on the motor ie deck height, chamber column, etc. you could get a CR around 9.0 to 9.3 or 4 by going with the flat top and a thin gasket of around .028. Perfect CR for todays fuel. I’ve done that several times with 273s.

Also, try and find some 920 casting heads. Best flowing head for the 273. They came on late 65 through 67 273. Next option would be the 302 casting swirlport head.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with a flat top and closed chamber head.

How hard are these 920 casting heads to find? Thanks, BK

I have several sets.

we usually run stainless valves with some cleanup around the valve guide. We take a 1.88 and cut it down to 1.82. This avoids valve shrouding. It would be nice to find the 3.625 bore sized head gaskets, 3.635 @.040 over. Using the standard Felpro gaskets creates a small area in circumfrance around the bore. Possibly creating a hot spot.

Port velocity is not bad, actually just right for a small motor

I have an extra set of 920's plus a couple sets of crack free 302 heads. Not hard to find if you are looking.

Thank you! I'm not really up on heads, do they have the hardened seats or would I to have a machine shop go through them?

Thanks again!
BK

install sst valves and cut seat and valve at 45 deg, they last a long time. done many this way.
