Steve McQueen vs. John Wayne

Think my all time favorite Wayne movie is the Cowboys.

As Leonard Maltin said, "this movie proves ol' dusty britches can act."
 
I always think of how Glenn Campbell referred to the Duke as "the arch conservative" in his book. That says it right there. Yes he had a typical persona in most of his films. I chuckle every time I see him as Genghis Khan but the chemistry in some of the films with people like Maureen O'Hara, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, Angie Dickinson, Ricky Nelson, David Janssen ... It just worked.

They do.

But I am watching 'In Harms Way' right now. So many good actors...Patricia Neal, Kirk Douglas, George Kennedy, Burgess Meredith, so many more. The greatest ww2 movie ever! I would willingly jump in front of machine gun nest if the Duke wanted me to. He should have been president.
