Stop in for a cup of coffee

My ex wife had a 95 Neon.... Front brakes are easy on those cars...

I had a Firestone shop do them once and they charged $350 and screwed them up... they didn't go all the way when cutting the rotors, and left a ridge about 3/4" from the center that grooved the pads...

When I found that, I called the parts store and got the top of the line pads for $45 and rotors were $25 each... After that I told the wife to just run them till they made noise and replaced the pads and rotors...

She went through three brake jobs in the first 70 k miles on that car...

Three transmission rebuilds, and 7 outside door mirrors.... :BangHead:

I had to fix the door panels after a shop did the mirrors twice and did not line up the panel clips with the holes properly and smashed and damaged the mounting clips... Then the panel would sag and prevent the door from opening... I bought a bag of door clips from the dealer and kept them in my tool box so I could replace them... After the second time the shops screwed that up, I changed the mirrors and clips when needed after that... :steering:
$350? Holy crap! Hope they gave you a reach around. lol
I'm pretty sure I can do All the brakes for like $200 in parts. And yeah pretty much everything on there is relatively easy. Almost everything is like half price compared to the Msgnum

Morning you Moparian mad men and one lady! It is a balmy -25F up here in the frozen tundra. We fly to Ark today to visit family. As a result I will not be taking electronic gizmos thus no getting my daily coffee fix for a week or so. Not sure I will be man enough to back read upon my return as you all are prolific writers! Hah!
When I go on vacations I unplug. My job has a bit of stress so I take the opportunity to unplug and reset. Wish you all well this upcoming week and prayers to Tim and a couple of others facing life stuff. Hope Dd gets tooth pulled finally! I will miss the witty and on occasion philosophical humor provided here on a daily basis. You guys rock. See ya in a week or so.

Are you gonna be near Memike??? Look him up if you are, northeast corner of Ark...

Well I thought my fund was getting low to. I was telling Cheryl how I had to buy a heat riser kit for the springs and parts, a correct carburetor core, etc.. She just looked at me and said "Just buy whatever you need". I just kinda of stared at her:eek: and she asked "What's wrong"....ahh nothing, I said. I really felt like asking if she was ok, but passed and just smiled.:D I'm a lucky man!!

She's a dandy for sure.

Does she have a sister????? :p :D :steering:

Yeah they did...

That's why when I found out that I could replace the pads and rotors for $100, I told her to run them till they grind and I'll replace them... :steering:

Firestone put themselves out of a job on that one... :icon_fU:

Thanks, enjoy your trip!

Replace brake pads xx dollars
Replace rotors xx dollars.
Likely they did charge you seperately for each procedure.
Some shops dont combine the work. A la carte i think is the term to use.
Like if i was to charge for 3 seperate procedures, water Pump, thermostat and belt idler. Not combined time.

So, intrigue is still overheating.
Bought a new coolant tester, good to -40.
Belt installed correctly.
Pulled water pump and vanes match old one.
Pulled thermostat, opens at 180 on the nose.
Put vacuum on cooling system, no leaks.
It was definetly overheating,as i could feel hose “chugging”
Still made good heat through the whole road test.
Did find a bleeder hiding on top corner of rad, bled it,no change.
Putting in a new thermostat regardless. Will refill and vacuum system to purge any air.

Thanks but will look for the Carter. They are out there and I'm in no hurry. Can continue to run the current one until I find one. Thanks though for the offer.

What Carb are you looking for again?

Found it. 1967 Carter AFB. Rani PM'd about one 2015. Maybe she'd sell it if she still has it???

Mike337 member had one or a few not long ago listed. Could contact him?

It was a 4299s...sorry it was also what Mike337 had

If the check engine light is on, trouble code might suggest oxygen sensor(s). Those things don't like coolant at all. Yeah I just suggested a failed head gasket. For a more positive note... The copper colored Head Gasket Fix from Barsleak really works. It's been in one of my 96 Camrys since late Sept'. Check engine light went off the very next day ( about 15 miles ) and has never came back on. Yes I struggled with the decision to pour some snake oil stuff in it. 23 bucks and only need half the bottle for a 4 cyl? YouTube videos convinced me to give it a try. At 28X K miles this car really isn't worth the cost of head gasket renew, especially if a reconditioned head is needed. For now, we're getting ALL the good out of these 'yotas.
