Stop in for a cup of coffee

All these new cool pix by Dd made me change my avatar! And perhaps a touch of gin and lemonade. It is spring in Fargo ya know, we just about hit 80 degrees today. It was hot (for here). I will spare y'all the details but note to self, always wear your glasses when drinking and making a snack. I won't elaborate here as the story is to long, details on Stop in for a drink thread, if the curiosity is killing ya! MITP in just a couple of days! Woo Hoo! We will miss those that live to far away to make it.
You are well lubed. lol

Dammit! I’m sitting in the garage during a heavy downpour from the storm going by and I hear what sounds like dripping on the ceiling. I hunt around and find this about 18” in from the front windows.

The rain was coming sideways from an unusual direction and the spot is right below a little roof bump-out and directly below where the downspout comes down from the small bump out roof above. The goddamn roof is only 5 years old and has never leaked before. :BangHead:

Ok, I think I figured out the cause and how to probably fix it. The down spout from the upper roof discharges sideways parallel to the front of the house and with heavy rain, the water it is expelling must be getting under the shingles and finding its way through to inside.

I hope just redirecting the downspout will fix it.

The old walk was just flagstone with grass in between. Too narrow and a serious PIA to shovel snow off of in winter. The new front walk will be 4’ wide stone pavers. We are also doing the area around the deck in the back and the area between the deck and the stairs to the walk-up basement. Also the front step and landing that was never properly finished.

The walks, stairs and patios will look something like this...

So is this something you are doing or is the association doing it? Curious...

Possibly going back up under the siding. Or blasting from spout over into that corner. Much more likely than actually getting through the shingles and whatever was used under. Entry point and exit (drip) are not necessarily close alignment. Water often meanders a bit before it finds a spot to come out. I would get them pointed away from wall at least.
Was raining over one of the printing presses here a while ago. It's still shut down due to dripping...

Shop i used to work, heavy rain and a leaky roof. They knew where the leaks were, didnt tell me to move my box and it filled with water. Spent 2 hours the next morning cleaning my tools.
They were only half as pissed off as i was.

This is a privately owned property so it is all mine. The association only covers common grounds like the entrance to the neighborhood and the playground. The road is township owned and maintained.

It could be that or both. Redirecting the down spout should resolve it either way. I doubt where it is intruding and where it is leaking are the same. Likely once it’s under the shingles, it finds a penetration point and then travels again to where it drips.

Our Condors had a flash flood warning this afternoon . The rough country to the east of us, mostly BLM and National Forrest. Not a cloud in the sky here and no wind to speak of. Then I looked over that direction and there is a huge thunderhead in that neighborhood. If they didn't get a thunder storm out of it, they missed a darn good chance. One of those clouds we used to see while out tromping around in the desert that made us head for higher ground kinda clouds.

Wishing him the best.
