Stop in for a cup of coffee

Dang, did they very even between models?

Here's the situtation I'm in. I sold a wiring harness to a guy 18, 18 MONTHS AGO, he calls me at 1:35 AM this morning, telling me the wiring harness is wrong and doesnt have what he needs in it. The car it came from is a 74 swinger, 2 dr, non - ac hardtop. His car is a 74 swinger 2 dr non ac hard top car..... I sold him the entire harness, engine, dash, complete from headlights to taillights. Why he waited 18 months to tell me and then call me at that hour is beyond me. But I'm at a loss as to what to tell him.

Late to the party, fill me in quick.

This...

First, The guy is not looking for a good response if he calls in the middle of the night. So, right off the bat, he's gonna have to call back at a better time if he wants anything but a hang up.
My phone goes OFF at 9pm...Back on at 6am...

to be honest, i havent spoken to him, he left me a voicemail, it did wake me up but i sent it straight to voicemail and rolled over and tried going back to sleep.

I would expect that to be the same in most of them anyway. Only difference would be added wires in an AC car.
thats what i thought, both though are non -ac cars as far as I know. I had to go back to the emails to find that out.

Here is my thoughts Chris. IF I were to buy a wiring harness and you have it advertised for a car similar but pretty much the same and I find out it is different 18 months later...that is my error. If you sold him a wiring harness for a particular car...THAT'S WHAT HE BOUGHT. Tell him sorry but pound sand.

yeah, i just got done going back through my emails, we confirmed the car type 3 times. So I am more perplexed as to how the wiring harness is different than anything else

So, did he just say its wrong and hang up? Any idea what he wants you to do about it? If it was within maybe a month, I'd probably refund. Beyond that I'd try to talk him through it, but shame on him for not checking it sooner. Mitch mentioned Hoppy's situation. 74 Dart pretty much loaded car. I know he looked at a bunch of 74 harnesses that were wrong. There were so many mid year changes with emissions in the 70's. You just can't ***-u-me it's going to be the same. If anything, I would assume that I would be modifying ANY harness that I bought.

yeah, just said," hey, i bought this harness off of you and im just now getting around to trying to use it. but it's not correct, the alternator wiring is different. " he wants me to check into it is all the VM said. so i'm checking into it.

If not AC, I would bet its emissions related. That side of the harness would have (or not) as many as 3 'black box' items. one was an EGR delay timer. Off hand, I cant think what the others were.

could be, i cant remember when my car was built, i wanna say it was dec 73/jan 74 but Im not positive. I do know it had no egr timer.

Mine has a wire or two with no home that I can see. The car runs so it can just hang there as far as I am concerned.

Mine also has extra connections. I picked up some of the boxes I saw on ebag. Any time I see a relatively unmolested car, I get pics and try to find out build date. I'd like to get it back to original (and it may be they were never there) Not that it matters much, since it seems like NOBODY knows what should be on for any particular build date. lol

I think most harnesses have extra plugs depending on what accessories your car has. It would be tough for the factory to have separate harnesses for every combination.

yeah so he's just gonna have to figure it out then.

They would have done whatever made sense for production. So if a part was going to be added, they would have had to add wires ahead of it. And they would have used up harnesses in stock after parts were stopped. As long as it was fully functional on the car they were building it went in. They didn't stop the line cause some poor sap was going to have a wiring dilemma 43 years later.

good points.

so to change the subject. I've trying to learn photoshop more extensively.... yeah, I have an even greater respect for Dave and his skills now, 2.5 hours later and I'm back to square one.
