Stop in for a cup of coffee

Just thought I'd throw this out there...one of our own had a bad misfortune, broken back and trying to get well. FABO member since 2005, doesn't post much but he asked for cards which tells me he could use the support, I can only imagine how it would be to be thrown in the hospital for many weeks trying to get well enough to go home...
scampman in rehab

Rained and frozed. Roads arent pretty today. Buddy’s truck in shop for 3rd go round with passenger power window. Cheap dorman lift assembly. Touch button with stuck window and cable pops off. Warranty again.
Why we have to deal with junk is beyond me.

Never build it here with out steel in the walls, and floor...

It will not hold up without steel. I even put steel mesh in my floors

Oh I know. I'm just saying that concrete alone material wise. Besides, I have a whole barn stable full of unused 1/2 and 3/4 diameter rebar from when my uncle was working with the highway department 30 years ago or more . At least a couple tons worth.

so I was just doing the math, I could built a house out of concrete for less than 25,000........
I lived in a concrete house until I left at 17...Always cold as heck. Except in the summer of course...then it was hotter than the bad place. Now add steel and bury it as a cave and you have something.

Oh i know, weve got a block house now that we live in and it drives me nuts

I live in a concrete house..

No wait, I was wrong. It's wood.. Sometimes I get those two confused.

So I just got off the phone with that home kit maker, it wont work over a basement. not engineered for anything but a slab.

Stick built does have it's advantages. Like when you need to repair or remodel. Ours is brick. What a pain doing anything structural. Our walls are brick outside, cinder block, and plaster inside. No space for insulation. Most of the windows are original to the house and painted shut. No leaks though. LOL I love the wavy glass reflection when the sun shines in.

That could be true with that kit but...Mine was designed by me and O brought the main support beams up from the basement Just as a barn is built. Don't let them tell you that stuff. I went to a saw mill and told him what I wanted. I ended up with the 6x8 beams and some are 6x12 beams and it is a post and Beam and I bought the Beams for a measly $2000. My design is a little unique because I live on top of the mountain and when it is raining in town I am getting snow. My walls are double thick 2x4's and the inner wall is staggered from the outside wall and no where except around windows and doors does the wood go from the inside to the outside. Outside wall is 3 1/2 inch insulation and the inside is the craft faced 3 1/2. Here is a design of my walls if you can envision the studs. In my living area I have with the cathedral ceiling 26' from living room floor to the ceiling.

I know what you mean. Never saw it done, but saw an article on it being done as an acoustic barrier wall for a home theater room.
