Stop in for a cup of coffee

It's a mess Hops! I have to run out and pick up a co worker so I must leave early.

Hey KK I see you are early today. Wow , times have changed at school for sure. They didn't even care if I came to class!! LOL

I was one of the good sheep that went to class...

My brother and a few of his friends figures out how to ditch without getting caught.

Back then, the attendance was taken by each teacher at the beginning of class. Each student had a computer punch card with there name on it. If they were absent, the teacher would put the absent student's punch card in an envelope and a student helper from the dean's office would come around every period to collect the computer cards for the attendance report.

They were able to get a friend to not turn their punch cards into the deans office and ditched the last two periods for three weeks without getting caught....

Another time, my brother and his crew were hanging out before school, and were running late. Our friend (now brother in-law) Jerry called in and gave the 5 guys names and said that his fuel line had froze and they would be late. The attendance lady told him, "Car problems are not a valid excuse for being tardy."

Since being tardy was the same punishment as ditching the whole day, Jerry told her, "Then **** it, we're not coming in today..." (His exact words)

Then the next morning during 2nd period, my brother and one of our friends got sent to the dean's office for missing the day before. While they were waiting to see the dean, the master attendance list was on the dean's secretary's desk and she walked away. They took the master list off of her desk, and there was no "absent" list sent out that day. The three other guys got away without getting punished for ditching.

The attendance was taken on first shift and then the dean's office generated the absent list for the day from first period's attendance, which also listed who was excused absence from the day before. By stealing the master list, the dean's office could not send it out that day as the cards were already returned to the teachers by the time my brother and friend stole the list that day... This was about 20 years before computers became a regular household item....

Back then, we had a stick or a box and a good imagination as kids playing. Our "gaming system" was Pong or an Atari 2600..... Cable tv was just starting to come to the neighborhoods, and MTV actually played music videos.....

Man it is slick out here. I just used a 50 LB bag of salt on the driveway so I can get out this morning! I wish I had my camera with me the Beagle was in two paw drive using its front legs to move and its *** on the ice! That made my morning.

You should have video'ed the dog... LOL! :D

Keep in mind that salt only works above 17° F. Salt water freezes below 17° F, so salt is only effective from 17° F - 32° F.... #-o :burnout:

Somehow I still got out of High School with a 3.0 grade average. I would not skip on test days or other important days. Plus as a junior and senior, I was on work release.

I left at 17, got my ged the next week and joined the navy one day after my 18th. My high school schedule was tech school in the morning in a different town, bus ride back wit a lot of beer and recreational chemicals for others, arrived at school just in time for lunch, then gym which I went to once for a full session, the teacher just wanted to see you and he gave you a C. two study halls than English the last period which I rarely attended but the teacher was a hottie!

I started a little low (below 3.0), but had 3.62 senior year....

I rarely ditched or missed a class...

By brother only needed one credit to graduate after junior year, and they wouldn't let him do a work release and work half a day, so he dropped out and started working at a body shop full time.

He was a year and a half older than me. When I graduated and had my diploma before my older brother, dad told him that he had to get his diploma. My brother went to summer school that summer to complete his high school diploma. So I graduated before my older brother because they wouldn't let him go a half day and co-op the other half - he already had the body shop job.

I'm an inch taller than him now, so I like to tease him and call him my "little brother".... :finga:

His early leaving of our high school also helped me once. Our school would make you sign a sheet giving them permission to search your car anytime that they asked, and you couldn't refuse. I wasn't doing anything wrong, or illegal, but didn't approve of the invasion of my privacy, so I didn't fill out the form to get a parking permit for school.

The deans would go through the parking lot and put a neon orange "parking sticker" on your passenger window (it was illegal for them to post it on the windshield). Then one of the deans would stand at the exit and look for the orange parking stickers. I would just carry a widget in my car (68 Barracuda fastback with the shelf on the dash), and just scrape the sticker off of my car before leaving the parking lot each day.

One day, I had forgotten to put the widget back in my car when I used it for something else. I had not scraped the parking sticker off the window before leaving, and one of the deans (Mr. Leach) stopped me, and called me by my brother's name and told me to come to his office the next morning. (some people could not tell me and my brother apart, but it wasn't that difficult, we were only brothers, not twins). So I told my brother what happened that night, and he said, "Blow it off, he thinks you're me..."

So I did, and none of us got in trouble. (My brother was working at the body shop full time then). The dean knew my brother from the antics of him and his friends through the years. I rarely got in trouble in school like they did....

I guess that Dean Leach became the dean of one of the other high schools in our district. When we moved back here, my oldest son went to the school where Mr. Leach was now the head dean. I didn't find out until after he had retired.... I would have loved to tell him that I still owed him a detention.... :finga: :finga: :finga: :D :D :D

I forgot about that one. I have to run to the VA if I can get out of here today with the ICE!
Enjoy all!

We dodged the freezing rain bullet yesterday. It was forcasted that we were to get freezing rain and a couple inches of snow. Schools were delayed and some even closed. I was thinking about staying home but I went out anyway. I found 2 slick spots in a parking lot and that was it. Glad I didn't listen to the weatherman.

Morning all, another 5 inches of snow last nite, still snowing. Coffee was good this morning. have a good one.

Good Morning guys. We are just getting the storm started here. Supposed to get 8 to 10 inches today. WOO HOO Break out the go anywhere Jeep Comanche !!

Found out yesterday that one of my Heat Pump systems was not working properly. Hooked up the guages and dropped in some R22. Heard a hissing noise out were I was adding at the condensing unit. Shut down the unit so I could hear better. Yup, sure enough, Leaking at either the coil or the Accumulator. I have two sysyems on my house since it is 3000 sq ft. Unit upstairs was replaced by me last fall. The failing unit downstairs is 28yrs old. So.... it looks like I get to change the entire system for downstairs. Air handler included. Gonna cost a little more on this unit as I am going to change the emergency heat feature over to LPG. Works much better than Electric coil back up heat. Was not expecting to lay out 3k for a system, but Hey.... How much will I save by doing it myself ??

Morning all. 5-7 predicted here and there is about 3 out there now. Sunday high 40's!

That sucks Mitch but it sounds like you've gotten your money's worth out of that system. LOL backup sounds like a good idea instead of the electric setup.

Imagine what it would cost having a HVAC guy do it?

Yup. I'm cheap like that. Really pisses me off to pay someone a lot of money to do what I can figure out. I will get a guy I know to make the final hook ups and get the system going though.
