Stop in for a cup of coffee

First. Got up for a potty break. (Tmi) and was looking at 64 Polara pics. Damn, that car is another one of those that needs some attention and not close enough to what I want for the price. The max Wedge thing is cool but in the video it isn't very radical. I'm sure it runs good but i don't need 2 carbs and max wedge heads and 3.91's on a street cruiser. It probably gets 6-8 mpg. Fun to drive performance wise but not for highway cruises which I enjoy. I would want to change all of that eventually. It needs paint like the other one here as well. It comes with new interior that has to be dealt with. I am not a fan of the wheels either. No mention of power steering. I can't see a pump or belt in the photos either. Yep, too many things to change to make it what I want. All those changes take money that I don't have if I would buy the car. There, I talked myself out of it. Lol
If you want a cruiser, look for a nice 64 with a 318 poly. Save thousands and usually have all the perks like ac and power steering as well as a 2.76 to 3.23 axle ratio.

Was doing some catch up reading from yesterday, looks like the thread took a few side roads from Spam to cross dressing male mopar models.....so a pretty normal day HA!

Yep and I'm still no closer to solving the hub cap dilemma

So I need opinions(dangerous to ask that here I know)

The rims on the polara I got from @Mopar Tim last year have center caps to them. I hadn't tried to put them on this entire time until today, mainly due to me having to take the rims on and off for working on various things. Well I got bored and decided to see what the car looked like with them on. Backs went on just fine, no issues.

The fronts however, won't fit on. The center of the hub sticks out too far. Roughly 1/2 too far.

I can think of three options.

A: get a pair of half inch wheel spacers but doing that would mean I'd have to really watch my tire height as that might cause the tires to run during turns

B: switch the A body discs which I have been considering and hopefully that center would clear the caps.

C: leave the caps off. Which I really am reluctant to do.

I'd pick B

Chris on a serious note can you get shorter dust caps or is the spindle still going to stick out to far?

The hub center itself is the problem. I took the dust caps off just to see if that would help it any and it still sticks out too far. The spindle shaft itself is recessed about a1/4 from the front of the hub center.

Woke up with a sore shoulder. Slept wrong i guess.
Oh ya
Morning!
Managed to get some cleanup done for storage, until my gmc decided to not start.
In 5 years, this is the 4th breakdown. Fuel pump, starter and i ran it out of gas once. Now whatever is going on today.
Pickup or ignition control is my guess.

No clue if different hubs will fit. Get the right rims or throw a bunch of money at it to make a improper part fit? Your wallet not mine.

Find a good fabricator to build a set of dust caps.
If the wheels mount, then it shouldnt be that big of an issue.
My magnum centre caps are junk,so i will be making some.

I'd have to change to disc brake spindles. Cost wise, it's a wash as I need new drums and the drums are $$$ and not even rock auto carries them. Napa is the only source I've found thus far and it's nearly 300 bucks for the pair, plus core charge.

FYI I'm pretty sure power steering and AC were not options on Max wedge engines.
You're right.

Right again. I would love a Poly powered cruiser. The car is a 440 dressed like a Maxie. Overbuilt for my needs. I could un-do it all buy no reason to. Might as well let it go and look for another.

Good morning, rained most of the early morning hours here, 58 degrees. Coffee is good , and I am on mile number three on the tred mill... ... getting my body up to par before I loss the use of my left arm, been here before and wish I did it when my right shoulder was worked on. Got to run to town this morning and return the oil pick up tube O'Riellies sold me, looks like it is for a deep pan :BangHead: When will I learn to order these parts on line and get the right part the first time :BangHead:

When the hell is there a core charge on drums? Man that sucks.

I'll keep my eyes peeled.

my guess is the hub. The hubs are sweged to the drums but can be separated. No one makes the hubs themselves anymore these days. Same problem with the rear drums on the tapered axles. However the rears are easily because they are the exact same rear drums as a regular 10 inch drum, so you can separate the hub and replace with any mopar 10 inch drum.

Front however are year specific to 63/64 and have a wierd sized shoe and the drum has a special bell shape to it. They are specific to the 63/64 B body with that option. So unique that even the shoes are special order from rock auto or Napa. Drums though, only way to get the front is with the hubs attached.

Really, Guess the new guys are lazy. The bell shape is just a mopar style that was supposed to repel water. Easily changed to a normal style drum with the same dimensions. Man I have done dozens of them in the past easy and cheaper fix for sure. No wonder why I sold the hubs from the Cuda so freaking fast! And removed the bell shaped ones also!
