Stop in for a cup of coffee

Oh, that’s right...you have been away! I managed to talk the wife into a 55” Sharp smart TV and a new cabinet. Today I added the sound bar. Both the TV and sound bar are perfectly sized for that small family room. :)

We have a 48" in a 12x14room and a Sonos Beam soundbar. Perfect size for both. It is setting at an angle on one end for good viewing from most of the room. 2 love seats and a recliner in a room with 3 doors is hard to set up for sure.

Our family room is about that size at 14x18 with a fireplace at one end and the max viewing distance from any seat in the room is only about 11’. The 55” TV and 130w sound-bar is just right. I wouldn’t have been happy with anything much larger, it would be like sitting too close to a movie screen.

Our old 29” Sony tube TV had much better sound than this flat screen does. The sound bar makes all the difference. For only $98, it was well worth buying.
We tried a Bose sound bar for my mother in law and she liked it as well as we did. Anybody that own's a flat screen should check out a sound bar. We had the old style surround sound with the big amplifier and the wired satellite speakers. I think the sound bar sounds as good or better than the surround sound did. Ours doesn't even have a sub. You can hook one up but don't need it in such a small room.

Right on Dave. Now when the first Star Wars movie came out I had to sit right up front the second viewing. I was in a different state of mind back then though. LOL

This sound bar doesn’t have separate sub either, but Sony (like Bose) built in a compression wave base reflex sub into the bar which is plenty good enough in a medium size room.

It might be as I get older but voices aren't too clear for me now days. The sound bar adjusted properly really helps. It is brighter treble which sounds clearer to the wife and I.

I think my hearing isnt like it used to be,certain tones grind on my nerves. Funny, they are about the same levels as my wife’s voice...

I put the final touch on the new TV today, picked up a Sony sound bar for it. Makes a big difference! The stock TV speakers were just meh.
I have been inclined to agree with the crap sound coming from flat screen TV's. However my Samsung curved screen 60 inch has superb sound coming from invisible speakers. It uses cell phone speaker technology.

A few of the better TVs have good sound, but most don’t. It think that’s why sound bars are such a big market these days...probably by intent. It lets the TV manufacturers double dip on the sales by selling both.

Sometimes like fingernails on a chalkboard. LOL

When we got our 55,i wasnt leaving the store without surround sound.
I do like the idea of a bose sound bar.
For now we will keep using the surround. I built a box,for the centre speaker, its exactly the size of the tv pedestal and speaker is in a perfect spot.
Also, leaves room for satellite receiver

True story and it’s funny strange, but my wife was tested as having a 50% hearing loss at the same frequency range as my voice. I was tested and I respond as irritated by sounds at the same frequency range as her voice.

I think this is all evolution at work...somehow.

Still using surround system on ours. But generally don't turn that on unless I am watching a movie. If just watching 'regular TV' the speakers are OK.

#1 not by choice. Lol. Gez, I found the coffee shop thread on page 4. Strange it was that far back.

I agree, I hate the speakers in our TV, can’t hear squat
