I stopped at 7-11 on the way home from the track yesterday. Left my truck & trailer (with my Duster on it) on the side and walked up to the front of the building.

There were two kids, like 16-ish sitting there on their bicycles.

"Nice car", one says.

"Thanks", I say.

"My uncle had one of those - like a 70 or 71. You know, the one with the split front bumper?"

"Hmmmm... What?", I say.

"That's a Camaro, right? Like a 78?"

Now, keep in mind that I'm wearing a Mancini racing t-shirt, that has a big Mopar logo on the front and "Mopar For Life" in huge letters on the back. Plus I'm wearing a Plymouth hat.

"No, genius, it's a Duster", I tell him.

"Duster? That was Pontiac's version of the Camaro, right?", he says.

"Yep, you got it", I say as I go into the store.

Stupid kids.

I was at a gas station with my Scamp and a kid about 16/17 walks up and says:
"Nice car,are you running a 350 in that?"
Me:  "UM,no! That's a chevy engine!"
Kid looks at me like i'm an idiot and walks away!

I don't mind people asking about my car but if they don't know what there talking about don't ask questions like that!

I was sitting in the staging lanes yesterday, a guy comes over to me and says "Hey, I got one of these, too. A 70".

"Nice car", I said.

"How do you know, you've never seen it!", he says.

"No, I mean I like the 70's. Nice grill".

"Well, mine is broken.", he says and walks away.

I saw a guy sitting with a nice looking 71-ish Challenger in the tech lanes. It said "T/A 340 Six Pack" (or something like that) on it. I don't know much about Challengers, though. But I went over, told him it was a nice car.

"Is it an original T/A?", I ask.

"No, it's not even a 71. It's a 73", he says.

"Oh. Looks nice, though", I say. "It's got a 340 though, right?".

"No. It's a 360. 340s are too expensive", he tells me.

Both of those guys sound like real Einstein's!

I had another kid ask me one time "Is that one of those Coronets?"I just said no and left it at that.He was driving a mid-70's Chevy wagon.

And like all Scamp owners i get the: Nice Dart!" I don't even correct them anymore,i just say thanks. I used to tell them what it is but end up getting the deer in the headlights look

people do that all the time . they want to appear hip to what you have.or what your doing. i just smile and walk away. don't have time to educate the ignorant. :D

Its not always kids, I was at a car show sitting beside my car when a older fellow walks up and says nice car ,65?.. no its a 68... are you sure?... yes, thats a 65 parked beside me...are you sure?...he walks over to the 65 looks at the form on the window and then over to mine and looks my form and says yep its a 68.... about 10 minutes later another fellow comes up and we start talking about hemi's and I said something like yup the good old elephant and he said they were never called that....I said "ok" and sat down and cracked a cold grog....

while at the track, all of the other kids own trucks, camaros, and mustangs. well, i get constant....

dude.......is that flowmaster(its magnaflow). that sounds tyte.
318? why didnt you build a 350 for it?
nice charger!
is that a charger?
what year charger is that?

it goes on all day long with me and my friends,we get all that stuff every day,is that a 350,No its a 318 MOPAR,or is that a 5.0,no does it look like a fuel injection to u?WTF if ya got nothin nice to say dont say anything at all! :drunken:

Be nice. You old guys have to educate those kids to what a MOPAR is and the mopar legend. Our problem is "and I think MOPAR is starting to correct that" that we let chebbys rule the roost for way to long. I go to the round track"shhhh dont tell anyone" and there is one MOPAR in the whole run. 35 chebbys and 1 mopar and he is getting his AXX Kicked. So instead of being stuck in our clubs of mopar only and mopar runns we need to be out Kicking some Chebby Axx and the kids wouldnt go hey is that a camaro or you need a 350, it would be thats a bad AXX Duster and look at that 340.

I took a chebby kid for a ride today in the Duster. Even with the engine tight and not going ove 5 grand , I made a believer out of him. He said " Ive been in alot of cars but never one this bad , I want one and thats just a 340, damn". Add one more member to the MOPAR Fan club.

For the life of me I can't figure out why people cant get Charger and Challenger straight!!!!!

Nice Charger, where? Your car. It's a Challenger, oh Same thing. DOH
I give up. Chevelle, Nova, same thing. yeesh.

I had a 72 Chally, I use to get Nice Charger alot. GD IT.....IT'S A CHALLENGER FOR CRYING OUT LOUD ! ! ! !

I also have a 68 Cuda and get the....Nice Camaro A whole lot, and I do mean alot.
Im nice and just Tell them, Chevy only wish they built a car that cool....It's a Barracuda made by Plymouth.
Have teach the new guys, If not who will carry on afater us?

I respect that they even say anything about an older car considering all the rice around. At least they are trying to show respect to us old timers and our muscle...I shrug off a lot funny comments, just because of that. We have to remember they didn't grow up with muscle cars...they grew up with turboed four bangers and 5.0 'Stangs. At least they try. I have to correct my 13 yo all the time on models and he'll be a better muscle car nut in the long run for it...he knows the '72 Duster I have is his some day. He thought he would get my Demon, but I had to douse that fire REAL quick!! :D

Give the kids a break...they're trying!!

hey, me and Zombie are both young, we are carrying on the mopars. im only 18 and im pretty knowledgeable about cars new and old. there is one guy that come into the store that has a 74 duster he bought thats all original, a 318 coronet, and another coronet that im not sure about. but i can keep up just fine with him, on most things.

its funny that i prefer to talk to the older car guys that probably remember when the cars were new models, i guess thats why all of my friends ask me about the cars.

i love cars, motors, machinery in general (thats why i got a tattoo of a gear with machinery illust. inside it).

the reason i try to learn so much about cars is (besides that im a fanatic..), i talk a lot, and i dont want to be mistaken about a car if _I_ start the conversation... i dont like to be humble or rude, so i guess that only leaves me room to be quiet or not be wrong.... (i guess im a little arrogant too, but a nice guy in general :) )

i like to be different, and i like to have an old powerful car. what do i go with? mopar. good, solid and unique cars.

See...you da man. That's what I'm talkin' about. I'm glad to see the younger generation interested in older cars, no matter the make or model. Us older guys will only be around for so long and then who will carry the MOPAR flag? Ya'll, that's who... :D

Hey Chad was that the kid with the camaro from checkers or the kid with the truck that does 85 in first gear
I alway get people asking if I still have that Nova or Chevelle when they refer to my Duster. My nephew said he wanted me to build him a Nova, so I picked up a Duster for him. I just have to start tearing it apart to see if its worth building.

I always get upset when someone refers to my Dart Sport as a Duster. At least thats a MoPar A-body, the biggest crime was someone calling it a Nova. ...and these aren't stupid kids, they're stupid adults.

Ive had someone ask me about my Mustang

Once at the gas station someone asked if my car has a slant sixs. It was running at the time. 3" flowmasters and a good size cam

Ive also had people ask what engine is in it. It says 340 right on the fender and what year it is, says 1969 on the front plate.

I always get people asking me if my 66 is a fastback or a convertable. When I tell them all Barracudas from 64-66 where fastbacks, they tell me I'm wrong because they knew someone else that had one. I get "what engine" question too, and they all expect a BB or Hemi. My niece & her boyfriend stayed with us a few days last week, He suprised me with what he knew about mopars considering he was 17, drove a Hundyai, and lives in Germany.
