Sure Grip Rearend Value Question

True Story, but im probably gonna need the cash to reinvest in the car in other areas, so far ive been very successful about trading parts i didnt need for parts i do need. :D
 
I currently have a 8 3/4 posi rearend with 4:11 gears in my 70 dart. I purchased a new rearend with 3:23's in it to do a swap. What is a fair price to sell my old, good working condition 4:11 posi rearend for? Axles not included.

wes beem - dont worry about calling it a "posi", these people all mean well and are really good sources of info. Just dont ever do it again...LOL! If you want a number for a good working "sure grip" unit with 4.10 ratio it will sell $400-450.00 all day long.
But you really need to verify the ratio on the ring gear (stamped in to it) and in the case like jerkyboy showed you. The case has the number we all are looking for cast into the drivers side of the lower pinion area.
The last 3 digits are what most look for. 742, 741 or 489 is the number they are referencing. This will tell pinion size and style.
Is it large yoke or small yoke
Then, what style is the "locking portion" or "posi" as you call it. Some are cone styles and some are clutch styles. I wish I had pictures to show you but if you research there are pictures on Google or even
on here thru search.

When you swap it out, take some photos, especially of the wear pattern on the ring gear. Let us know if there was anything in the oil and how much play there is and the more info the faster it will sell.
Remember shipping isn't free for a heavy unit like that.

3.55 or 3.91 are excellent street gears. I dont think I would go any lower in my cars.
If I was buying the main factor on price would be cone vs clutch sure grip. Im not fond of the cone types at all.

Where are you in OH, I may be interested in it for a reasonable price, it you are not too far away.
 
Also...Were there ever any 4.11 ratios offered in a Mopar differential? I know it is being picky but I thought the 4.11 was a Ford ratio. GM had 4.10, Mopars had a 4.10 too. Personally, I have never seen a 4.11 in a Mopar.

the condition and cobbled together state every aspect of the car was in very much reflects the lack of knowledge of the guy who "built" this car before i bought it. I got it from a guy who bought it off of his son to settle some debt. All he had to go by was what his son told him, and in turn thats all ive had to go by. This is my first mopar, my first classic car ever actually, so all i can go by is what i was told.
 

Really? What are the Jet-Ski versions used in the water called? Are they SEA DOO ?
The originals from the late 60's were called Bombardier Sea-Doo's. Not the greatest PWC but for the time they were fun.
I believe "JetSki" is a Kawasaki name for their PWC.

Bearings in good condition
Unit serviceable and install ready

$450-$500 for 3:55 gears
$500-550 for 3:91 gears
$600 for 4:10 gears

Yes, they can be cheaper, and definetly more expensive, but this is a guideline to go by when buying or selling!

Subtract $100 for 741 case
Subtract $100 for cone style SG

Of course, there is no such thing as a 4:10 gearset for 741 case, at least not in today's world, so I would bet it's a 489/cone style SG, which would put the value at around $500

THANK YOU. This is what i needed to know. I had a guy offering to trade me what i had for some custom upholstry work and i was just trying to make sure the rearend wasnt worth way more than the work quoted in trade. Based on the price spread it sounds like a fair trade to me.
