So I was removing pieces for rechroming thru Mopar hibernation season. Im surprised when I removed the top pieces of shifter knob I discovered the button is plastic. Is this a repop or were they plastic from factory? ?

Thanks
Steve

All the ones I've seen over the years have been plastic also, I believe factory did it that way.

yup ..I have a few of those and they are all plastic

Thanks I wasn't sure as I had a coronet with console but couldnt remember if it was plastic or not. I guess I will look for repops

Thanks again

The button on the shifter on my friend's 66 Charger was plastic

There were also metal ones made from the factory on some early cars, i had a few including an NOS one

Good Chance, i am pretty sure the last one i got had a BU switch on the console auto shifter dated 67

Hmmm I wonder if the one in my 67 Coronet was metal...I could almost swear it was.

I had one with a metal button also. Most are plastic though...

$32. bucks for a re-pop in metal ....if it were me I would get a new one ....original stuff is nice but when you consider pitting and fading on top of how people put their grimy mitts on it over the years and probably picked their nose and then shifter gears J/K........new ones are johnny on the spot and with a warranty.

Of course you know shipping will be a fast closing door and slap on your behind.

LOL, you had me at nose-pickin....
THEN you had to mention paddy whacks!!:blob:

the metal one doesn't appear to be chrome plated. For 85 bones you can buy knob with button which does appear to be chromed.
