This again.... 4bbl on a 318 with a 2bbl

There are cast iron and aluminum. Either one works better than the stamped steel ones. They are a 1 time use part as far as I'm concerned.

Good to know, mines an 81 D series.

I sanded it flat, reinstalled with a new gasket and a little rtv. Fingers crossed. If it still leaks I'll pick up the correct housing.
IIRC, the cl-to-cl of the mounting flange bolt spacing is "tighter" than the pre 80's thermostat housing.

So far, so good and it's dry today.

Now back to figuring out the dang linkages, double checking all the ports are plugged on the intake and get it running.

Good luck and best wishes with everything there! How are you managing to staying dry there? It’s not too pleasant out on this side of the state today… well, we’re dry because the snow is powdery and a cordless leaf blower does the sweeping really well.

A few flurries this morning, snow on the ground from yesterday. Quite the change from Friday and Saturday!

Apologies in advance for all the pictures, for the 340 throttle cable bracket and summit kickdown cable installed. The kickdown cable doesn't match the instructions, which is great and Summit so far ignored me explaining this to them and asking for clarification.

That out of the way, does this all look correct:

Things I'm not sure about ... The silver spring looks really stretched, it goes from the bottom of the summit kickdown bracket. The other thing is the throttle cable (I crudely drew a red line on the last photo) but is that ok looped up like that? I think before it was maybe looped down.

Going to relocate the brake booster to the rear port on the carb so I plan to remove that vacuum tree and cap that hole. Also need to pick up caps for some of the small holes at the front of the intake.

I'm hoping that the linkage is correct though.

Why is your throttle return spring trying to open the throttle (floor it per say) ???

Well, clearly something is wrong

There's a second spring going forward (you can see it in the pic below, but the kickdown rod is now gone and there's a 340 bracket installed). That darker spring is connected to a bracket at the front of the intake and then the big loop on the carb.

I'm not entirely certain what the 2nd lighter colored spring is for unless they're both throttle return springs and with one stretched they are fighting each other.

I'd put the heavier spring going forward, ditch the second spring. Never tried hooking up a Lokar kickdown myself, but I don't see why you would need the second spring, as the Lokar cable appears to me to be hooked directly to the carb without any free play.

Heavier spring for throttle. The lighter spring is the return for the kickdown. They both need to be used.

Hopefully this looks better, dark throttle return spring going forward, lighter silver spring attached to kickdown

the idea of the kickdown having a return spring was due to the linkage having the long slot in the adjustable rod. It was to ensure the linkage returned to the end of the slot. You have a cable. It will return with the throttle. What you have now is the two springs which you should have returning the throttle, not the kickdown cable.

If i can chime in. The purpose of the kickdown spring(outermost) running from throttle stud to the rear(somewhere, I cant see it) is to bring/hold that slotted arm so that it JUST touches the throttle stud when its at idle. Then as you increase the fuel the slotted arm pushes back on connecting linkages.
Hope that helps/makes sense?

For sure, in this case I no longer have that slotted rod, so essentially as posted in #318 both springs are acting as throttle return springs due to having a kickdown cable.

Correct. The cable doesn't need a return spring, because it's on the opposite side of the carburetor pivot point, so it uses the carburetor return spring for its return. It's even more important to have the cable adjusted correctly, too.

Oh, ok I thought TMM pic(reply 317) was your new setup.
Wish I was there to help, its difficult to "translate" thru the net.
