How do you connect a timing light (inductive pickup) when the coils plug directly into the plug?? Only way I can think of is to install some short plug wires so that you can get access to the plug wire on #1?

Hmmm.
Well if you have a COP(coil on plug), then you have EFI. And if you have EFI, and COP, you cant change the timing, so why do you want to check it.Put a scanner on it, let the computer tell you what its running.

Now, if you want to sync up the computer reading to the true crankshaft timing, thats another story. I have done what you are contemplating. You may have find and mark the balancer or flywheel, or something attached to the crank,or directly driven lock-step by the crank, as to TDC.

You got it - I wanted to cross check the computer reading. I've found TDC on #1 and am fabricating a simple timing mark.

If I remember correctly my tuner said you can clip the inductive connector around the #1 coil pack neg wire... Ive also read some guys say just mess around with the clip biting the coil pack itself and it willl sometimes pick-up... Haven't tried it myself yet, but will soon when I head to the dyno.... I'd love to see your modified bracket/mark, I gotta come up with one too.

I've had success just putting it on the wires going to the #1 coil. Worked for me.

I have an adapter in one of my boxes that allows you to do it. I will see if I can find it. I think MSD makes them.

Goodonyaagain
Now, where are you thinking of shining the light from?
Dont forget about paralax!

Will shine up from under the LF frame rail for a straight shot. Seemed to be the only place for a good clear shot and where I could install a pointer.
