tranny/bellhousing original color

I'm pretty sure the transmissions were bare cast iron. I've seen bell housings fully painted engine color, partly painted engine color & some not painted at all, just bare steel or aluminum. I guess where the car was built made the difference on how the bell housing was painted, or not at all.
In resto mods I’ve seen the bell housings painted and the trans painted a cast iron color or clear coated after being blasted clean. I’ve seen some transmissions black or grey.
With all the cars I’ve personally stripped in my 40+ years in this hobby I’ve never found a painted transmission or bell housings. Just bare and rusted / corroded.

Although my car is a '69 and not a '66, the original bell housing is the same color as the motor. The trans is not painted. Neither have ever been removed from the car.
The earliest A I have taken apart was a 64 Barracuda, 273 with 833. The trans was natural iron and the clutch housing with associated shields were red with the engine. Clutch boot had remnants of red. This was an original, unmolested car. Even the lower part of distributor was red.

I can answer you as I installed a '66 A-833 in my Demon.
This '66 transmission and bellhousing came from a Barracuda.
The bell was red.
The transmission was bare metal.

I painted mine but I don't have a photo of it when I took it out. 
I'm sure it was painted it or I wouldn't have repainted it. @65dartcharger can fill us in.

They were mounted on the engine before paint incl the front cover and the under cover! Not sure of the name.
