Turbo six cylinder in a Satellite

-
Very cool project. Been foolin around with my D250 I/C Turbo Cummins. Learning the ropes

Thanks,
I'm learning too.

I got a 92 5 speed CTD
got it to where it gets good mileage and pulls great

This project is using a engine and trans that was laying around,
plus to build something different.

Idle is fine
it's when, I want to bring the rpm's up ( as if setting at the line)
to build boost to launch the car

The trans is out of a airport Tug
no one could tell me the stall speed
so, used it anyway to find out.

It would be great for a DD, mileage converter.

Gonna check with my friend Brad,
he does pulling trucks,
see what he thinks about a different converter

Ahh gotcha.
With the timing bumped and the stock turbo, that converter my work just fine.............

change of plan? sure would like to see this projects end..............................
Not really,
Just took a break > deep sea fishing. just got home, decided playing with Mopars is "More Fun"
I need to work on the rear suspension.
can't full boost, off the line
It wants to wheel hop, or wants to get loose, going into second
have ET streets on now
31 x14.5 - 15
If I change to slicks, can't run the "Street" class.

That will do it!
I would put some clamps on the front of the leaf spring to keep them from winding up(wheel hop)

What angle is the rear shackles at?

Finally took the Satellite to the track
Never had so much fun
Going so Slow.....lol

It leaves quicker than I thought it would
started at 5 lbs boost
fourth run
finally figured out the lights
and how deep to stage
> VERY different from the White Dart

Now That I got a base # to work with

Time to crank it up...lol

Sounds like a solid start!
Glad you got it together.

You may need to take the skinnys off the front, for some fat ones, so you can stall it higher:poke::D

What about a shot of nitrous ?

here's the very first run > just havin "Fun"
(first time for the camera guy too)

Stock last night

today doing a gear change, turning up the pump, and advancing the timing

3.54 and that tall tire should work good.
can't wait for you next video when some notable smoke comes out of them pipes.
Probably pass the diesel smoke i/m test, the way it is now.

I would not! But it has been done.
You are running it as a non intercooled eng Right?
I would use a water/methanol kit. Cools the air and give it a kick at the same time.
something real simple and easy like this
AEM 30-3301 | Buy AEM V2 Water/Methanol Injection Kits For Turbo Diesel Engines at JEGS
Or more complicated like this unit from snow performance
Snow Performance | The Water-Methanol Injection Experts
Drag cars work better with something like this^^^^ intercooler only works when you're about done with a 1/4 mile LOL
It's safer then nos,
creates intercooling of the air as the water is turned into vapor
and the slight amount of Methanal that is in the water(windshield washer fluid )give you eng another boost of power.
Read up on it. It's kind of a cool fuel adder.

made a few changes

pulled the trans brake > let the trans shift on the governor
changed the rear to a 3.55 > Yep a 8 3/4.....lol
until I figure what gear for the Dana
Still need to remove the tamper collar for the power screw
crank up the fuel

first 2 passes @ 5 lbs boost, I wasn't thinking, am so used to 160* for engine temp > Dart > E-85

next 3 passes> temp 180* @ 7 lbs boost
Still running "Up against the engine governor" @ 3/4 track
time for a 3800 rpm spring...lol

guess, I'm going in the right direction
10.02 @ 60.74 Now
9.53 @ 68.06

You just need to buy a gear vender and your problems would be solved!! LOL
It will turn them 3:55 into 2:77 just like that!
Gear Vendors under/overdrive auxiliary transmissions Hot Rods, Dodge 3-Speed Automatic Muscle Car/Street Rod/Restoration.
could be cheaper than finding a Dana 61 and then gearing it.......................
IT'S ONLY MONEY!:poke::D

over the winter
gonna put the 518 trans in with a 3.73 or 4.10
I have a Dana 61 > 3.07

might try 3.23 in a few weeks, or even a 2.94
If, it didn't keep running up on the governor, could get some better ET.

Want to put the 3800 gov spring in, but have to change the valve springs also
got the parts/ just don't have the time

I would skip the 518 and go straight to the 61 w/307!
I have owned one GV in my 91 Dodge diesel. no problems, worked great.
The price is what makes it so hard to go that way. And you just can't find a good one used!!!!
I didn't change valve spring when i put the 3800 governor spring in. but it did have heavier exhaust spring because it had and exhaust brake!

At 7 pounds of boost you need to break the seal and turn up the power on that pump.
When i had my injection pump rebuilt (leaking fuel) they ask me if i wanted them to turn it up. I told them to turn it up to Stock Cummins Spec,(they were de-turned to keep chry's drivetrain out of warranty issues back then.) I could get 25 pound of boost without a hole lot of smoke.
The problem with turning the power screw up much past that. It will eventually blow the rubber off of the fuel shut of plunger and then you can't stop it without raising the hood and pulling on the manual shut off lever. Some guy have installed a choke pull cable to that lever and not worried about it shutting off with the key. Make for a great anti- theft device. LOL
Then your next upgrade should be to a 94-02?(holset 35) turbo 2nt, and or 3 generation dodge diesel. shouldn't be two hard to find on e-bay. The compressor flange won't fit but if you grind of the bump, you can put a hose on it. there was something i had to do with the turbo oil drain, but i can't remember right now.
