I am use to $$$$$$$'s Its a habit
Honestly, it’s a bit hard to take seriously a self proclaimed expert machinist when he says “thousands”

I know you are just perfect with your spelling. I also install body panels and weld the " seems ", I am sure a true machinist which I never claimed to be would also know they never right out the word Thousandths or Thousands. It Is .010 .001 . Tomato Tamato If you need the word correctly spelled ask someone who cares . Because your input "meens" nothing Check out post #5 and #6Honestly, it’s a bit hard to take seriously a self proclaimed expert machinist when he says “thousands”
Yeah, if you're used to that, then you're definitely not an engine machinist, I am & I'm used to having no $ at all.I am use to $$$$$$$'s Its a habit
^^^^^This is pretty much exactly true...I see up to .001" with an oil pump torqued down. J.RobIf the machinist had an oil pump section bolted to the main cap while sizing and the OP didn't have an oil pump pre-bolted to the cap when using the plastigauge, then there will be discrepancy in size on that #5. see my post #37. FYI a small chev will change in size/shape by .0009 inch
Funny how that works isn't it? I've got an engine on my floor that has a long story but the customer has $121,000 invested in it and it aint right....J.RobYeah, if you're used to that, then you're definitely not an engine machinist, I am & I'm used to having no $ at all.
Sure ya can! J.RobSometimes .010 is not enough. An what about a Diesel with a gear drive, How do you fix a tight gear clearance from moving the crank closer to the cam? You all can dream of why a hone is OK but there are several reasons on many different engines where its not. There are times you surface the caps to close the bore and rebore the cap to resize the bore just skimming the block. You cannot do that with a hone without raising the crank in the block
Looks like it might suffer from chatter with that long unsupported span. Does it? J.RobEvery new race block that comes here is line bored when made. Honing is a thing of the past. Not saying it can't be done . That's like using stones on valve seats. The new way is multi angle cutters. Some shops don't have new equipment and they are stuck doing tings the old way. Old machinist using old machines. . I wouldn't let anyone line hone my block. That's when you chance getting unequal bores . That doesn't happen with a cutter.
$40,000 for a head machine to upgrade from the old one and that had cutters. Two heads at the same time everything is identical . These engines are not getting easy to replace. Why ruin the with old school technology

Thats a great way to wind up with an egg shaped journal. J.RobCan always polish the crank journals a lil. There are a few ways one can approach this

Cant really get into it as its a top secret racer guy type, but long story longer = Guy goes to big name builder in the US drops like 80k CDN on a super duper engine.....receives it, its not competitive, takes it back for "repairs/sorting out" gets dinged another 41k CDN....Now I get to fix it for ....DRUMROLL.............As little $$$$$ as possible. FML. Anyone know someone that wants to buy a fully equipped machine shop? J.Robwe all like a long story around here...

You must not be a good machinist that is in demand , Or your doing something wrong. Steve is constantly buying things to right off. Bought new a Bobcat and he don't ever leave the property with it. A $150k Toy when we already had one. Went bigger with AC , Heat and power angle plus GPS depth gauge.Yeah, if you're used to that, then you're definitely not an engine machinist, I am & I'm used to having no $ at all.
Just because you can write material/machines off on your taxes doesn't make them free. I could buy a couple Ferrari's and a lot of other crap right now but I don't because that is a stupid expense and I probably can't get in and out of the damn thing. Sound's like your son is like my wife shopping on Amazon, and there could be a problem in there. You must not be a good machinist that is in demand , Or your doing something wrong. If its a tool or auto related you can right it off. Every 3 months he has to spend money. The big Diesel refresh is where the money is at.
And with all the new Cummins dropping the cheaper valve seats on the new Rams the money keeps flowing in.
Plus the Vipers, Audis, GTR's and exotic cars. There is no money in the older V8 stuff because they are hobby cars, People who own them don't have money unless they are one off cars being restored. Steve does not advertise and there is no sign on the road. If you don't know someone its hard getting in the door.

As soon as I cash in on the lucrative Black Walnut bumper-crop I keep stepping on/over, I'll be right up w/a rig, to take all those "Daddy Fix!!!!" It didn't take long for him to show his true colors out in the open did it? Trash everyone elses work, BOAST endlessly about all the money his kid supposedly makes, if people could get banned for being douchebags we would all be better offsome people just can't help themselves...
Your dad sounds like as big of a dumass as you.Maybe he should pay in so the Immigrants running Hospice and Learing centers can collect their free ride.
When your accountant tells you to spend , You ask how much? Then look for a machine or a tool
My dad told me "He who dies with the most toys wins". As long as you have someone to give them to.
I just like winding guys like you up. And I see its working. Your just a name caller . People can't spell things wrong without criticism. It didn't take long for him to show his true colors out in the open did it?
