If ever.
Long story short noticed oil pressure low last outing last year( couple test and tune hits in October.
Fresh oil and filter, started it up cold, seemed OK, put it away.
Got it out this year, got some temp in it, oil pressure was back to lower than normal, not good.
Get the pan off, good bit of the timing chain tensioner is laying in it, bearings are shot, rods and mains, rotor scored up in the oil pump. All in all not a happy day today.
So now I have decisions to make( just retired first of June)
1. Fix it
2 sell it as a roller
3. Sell it with top end, headers, trans and convertor included

This all sucks big time!

If you've got other hobbies you enjoy more and can't swing racing by all means throw in the towel. If you enjoy it why not fix the motor and keep it up while you still can. It's just money, you can always make more.

Can we see a pic of the timing chain you used? And I'm sorry this happened. But let me ask. Why would you sell? You always have a chance to damage something when racing anyway. That's no reason to give up. And I'm not bein snarky. Maybe take some time to think on it and sort it through. But lets see what chain you have.

So sorry to hear. I fully understand the high costs now more than ever. It's just all a bunch of bs and the working people suffer.

Yeah. No kiddin. It takes a PILE do get one built and another PILE to keep it going. It's not really a hobby anymore.

Will be late next week, gonna be upper 90’s here starting Saturday, and have to borrow a cherry picker yet too.

Man can I relate to that! My tractor is down and I have everything to fix it but it's HOT. I may get the lights out tonight.

Shitty, I too have suck luck.
Also, have to work 7 days a week to pay bills because my wife is having a hard time finding a job.
Your car is a way easier get back together and race it vs mine....mines not finished.
In my opinion, if you love racing then put the thing back together and get after it, you only live once , no regrets on the last day is how I see it.

I went through the same thing this past year. New motor and I lost the camshaft. I am in the process of purchasing a new motor. I have reached out to a few people on here for advice but never got any real response.

Well that sucks.
On the plus side, you caught it before there was a hole in it.

Take your time…….. get it out and get a more thorough look at everything.
It might not be that bad.

Will find out if the mains have press. From what the crank looks like so far, I can give lots of thanks to driven oil. Crank “ looks” OK, but it needs a much better inspection.

You could always build a more street able motor and make a cruiser out of it
Lol
It’s already a pooch, anything that would slow it down is not my cup of tea.
I am more of a racer than a streeter or car show type. It is already enough of a cruiser for my needs

The tensioners seem to have mixed reviews over the years but there is enough smoke around them to make you think twice. I have seen some well respected small block builders using them.

What chain did you use with the tensioner? If a double roller, which with your deal is much more likely than not, that’s why it ate the guides. I hate those things. They do have a place and it’s either on a stock engine with a link belt type chain, or in the trash can.
