Welp, I blowed up!

Been there done that "in a different sort of way."

440-6 no6 rod came loose / broke, broke the rod next to it, which went through the block, at some time it or another rod swung around and broke the cam (into several pieces.

As I recall, removed the intake (which had a big mark on the bottom, from a pushrod pushed up through the valley) the distributor and valve covers, and threw the rest into the garbage.

Even the timing chain was stretched beyond recognition.

This was somewhere?? around "S of Stockton" on the way to Davis to see a friend, at umpteen hours in the morning. Spent the rest of the weekend flying back to San Diego, got out the 64 426, rented a tow bar, and drove all the way back up there to tow the RR all the way back down to Miramar.

Cylinder cracked, oil pump is shot, and crank has a gouge in it. It was already .020/.020. Pushrods, rockers and lifters all looked fine.
Guess it's time for a 512. :)

wow that inpressive, it got everything, on the bright side the 512 will be bigger and faster

I was going to pull the motor in a few weeks anyway to freshen it up. I had about 300 passes on it. Maybe it was better that it broke now than breaking in a new motor. I probably wouldn't have replaced my valves on a freshen up.

Sorry to see that BT. But chit happens... You got a lot out of that bad boy imo. Can't wait to see your next powerplant. The $$$ sucks, but I'm sure it will be cool, just like this one.

As a lurker on FBBO, I love your posts over there. :D

Man that sucks! I hope your down time is short.

Lets hear it. Did it go out in a blaze of glory, just past the traps as you whupped *** on a chebby? Or at least smoking the tires out of the burnout box? Last one I did just quit running,no drama at all. Anyways, what a bummer.

Funny you say that. I started using my home made throttle stop that day. My car has no cage and a lap belt and has been consistently in the 11.20's. All the tracks have now "suggested" that I don't go below 11.50. My 2nd round pass was against a 69 camaro. I dialed an 11.62 and ran 11.629. Big cloud of smoke juse past the stripe. Won the race and locked up the Nendra championship for the year. Can't be too upset.

Thanks Rick. If you lurk over there, you already know I'm scheming!
