What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-

Replaced a split fuel line that I noticed was leaking while the car was on the hoist during the replacement of clutch rod clips and washers.

Driving and enjoying it, dead stop hit and foot matted = vroom to 4.700 shift to 2nd = varooom to 4.600 third she fell on her nose! Out of gas, hmmm.. yep, can't make a hard hit with just a 1/4 tank, sloshed all the gas to the back away from my pick up... spooked me at first, but she started back up and drove great for another 15 miles. Think I was at 78 mph before 3rd..

Yep, a long incline would be a problem, I can air up my air shocks if I foresee any long trips on a hwy in the hills with very few gasses stations I guess, but she rides and looks nice setting with 45 lbs, minimum I believe, that picture above I set them up a bit to near 75 lbs, I like it better where I keep it here

Overall are you happy with the cam and intake change Mike?
Oh my yes, the cam comes in at 1.500 , not 3.000, and the intake sure is happy, dual plane working great all the way from idel to 4.700, have not took it higher. Sorry I jumped past you question earlier today. My bad..

Reminds of the time I was four-wheeling in my 1981 Toyota Mini truck. In the mountains and tried climbing a tall, steep hill. Was doing fine until it quit sucking fuel. Had to back down. Drove into town, filled up, and went back to conquer the hill. Made it up!!

Went to a monthly cruise with the 71 and had dinner with our friends there.

Came home and got the avatar loaded up and ready to hit the track tomorrow. Gonna be a slow day in the heat but we'll give it our all!

Redid the rear brakes on my 63 Valiant conv. Have discs up front, rears are nine inchers. Never worked on these before, and I have to say the nine inchers are a PITA compared to the ten inchers. Anyway, I found out when I got into them that the brake self adjusting hardware was missing, so I replaced that and also replaced the rest of the hardware with new. Wheel cylinders were nasty, so I just bought new instead of trying to rebuild the old ones. Still have to clean up a bit and bleed the brakes. My wife used to help me do this, not sure she's up to it now. If not, I'll get my grandson to help me when he gets back from racing in Montgomery Alabama this weekend.

The 360 in my 67 Barracuda is apart. Gonna replace its .450 lift cam with a .490 lift cam. Had the new lifters resurfaced by NC engine builder. Only three bolts left to remove to pull the cam.

Part of the K frame on the passenger side broke off at the sway bar bracket. It's gonna be replaced with another K frame, which has been sandblasted and painted gloss black urethane. And while I'm at it, I'm replacing the steering box with a PST 20:1 box.

I also got a new Kevco oil pan for it.

Well, I was out of commission for three months with severe leg pain from a pinched nerve in my back. Several MRI's and a prescription for pregabalin later, I've recovered enough to get back to work. And it's easy to put off until tomorrow what you can do today, but knowing that at my age the road ahead is a lot shorter than the road behind helps to motivate me to get something accomplished while I still can.

Two sets of new tires. Prepped painted, and detailed. Soon to be installed....

15"x6.5" 3699066 wheels with 235/R60-15 and 255/R60-15 for my 1973 Twister. Originally repainted in the 80s, I repainted the wheels with my last can of Mopar Performance P4529876, argent silver Rallye wheel paint, top coated with 2K clear.

I bought the trim rings, #3461043, and center caps new from Chrysler in the 80s. The caps, or domes, were dark argent, but I repainted and flaked them in light argent, then top coated with 2K clear.

The original stickers on the trim rings finally came off after 40 years and a lot of miles.

14"x6" 3580060 wheels with 225/R70-14 for my 1970 Duster. Already painted 20 years ago, I re-sprayed the wheels with black catalyzed acrylic enamel.
PXL_20250517_195526877.jpg

The wheel covers are 1965 Valiant/Barracuda that were on my original 1970 Duster I bought in late 1975. It had 14"x5.5"wheels with small lug pattern and the long lug nuts that stick through the wheel cover. My replica Duster has late A-body disc brakes with the large lug pattern, so I added some dummy stainless steel nuts and washers affixed with bolts to the wheel cover to simulate the original look.

The 14"x6" 3699331 five spoke road wheels with 225/R70-14 are an alternate wheel/tire for my 1970 Duster.

Cool! I never would have thought of doing that. Or even figured out it could be done.

It's not quite a perfect look, but looks okay. It does make for a heavier wheel cover, but still not as heavy as some other Mopar wheel covers. They haven't flown off at 100MPH, so far so good.

Some detail shots:
