What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
This past Sunday the North Oakland Mopar Muscle club held their annual charity car show & swap meet at the old Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Township, MI. It was cold, windy and rain was threatening. After 4 hours of the harsh weather, I decided to call it a day. My friend, Karl, got some video of me, in the Jaundiced GT, making my escape! It always brings a smile to my face to see the Jaundiced GT rolling down the road.

So far the Powermaster 9000-13 starter is not working with Tri-y's. Although with the header tacked on I was able to put it in the mount area, but cant line it up correctly to stab it home. The solenoid hits the header. Going to work on it more tomorrow and will follow up.

Don't understand why you are not using the High Torque Dodge Dakota Mini Starter?

Smaller size, plenty of cranking power, optional power lead placement comes with every starter, reasonably priced, available locally and easily online.

Works so well they are even used on the high compression Hemis from years gone by.

No reason to fight it.

Nicely done not peeling out of the parking lot and wrecking your ride a few hundred feet down the road! One brand of pony car driver seems to do that more frequently than all other brands combined?

After a year of prep, basecoat yesterday, clear coat today! Car show on Saturday!

Nope, not doing that! I did my share of that nonsense 45+ years ago. Besides, it's just an ice cream parlor cruiser.

I'll let Todd show off (after he finds some fuel):

Back from vacation and exchanged my new master cylinder for another one… too tired to attack it today. Wish me luck for tomorrow

Well, she is finally ready for the season! Initially I swapped the converter for a 3500 stall unit and installed 90-10 shocks on the front and 9 way adjustable shocks on the rear. Both from Calvert. That was supposed to be it. Everything else was supposed to be exactly like last year. Well, God decided to test me in another new and exciting way!
When warming up at idle prior to checking trans fluid level etc. it just died. Turns out the 1 year old timing chain broke. It bent a couple valves and the idea of running that same 360 Magnum engine as it was just became more difficult and costly. I was crushed! I really didn't have time for this!
As luck would have it, I got an engine as a spare for the race car I bought this spring. It is a 421 cid small block (4-1/8 stroke, 4.030 bore) with a 241/241@.050, .528 lift solid flat tappet MP purple cam in it. It has ported X heads, but i really didn't know much else about it. I decided to drop this engine in my car because I really didn't have any other choice. I ran it on my run stand, and it sounded really good, and had gobs of oil pressure so I decided to drop it in.
The whole time I was so nervous that I was dropping a turd in the engine bay, but once I finally got it all installed and running, man, it seems like it will be a real ripper! I still have to get the valve lash right. This is my first time using solid lifters. But I will get it figured.
I have a drag and drive coming up on Fathers day weekend so I have a couple more weeks to line it all out. I passed his test and am back to being a happy hot rodder once more! I cannot wait to see what times I will turn with this new combo!

We did some test fitting and grinding for installation of Competition Engineering subframe connectors and torque boxes. I'll hopefully have them welded in soon.

That sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I have only heard good things about that MP 528 solid cam. It is supposed to have way better street manners than the 509 hydraulic.

Finally got the Dart running. New engine was installed and cam broken in last Fall then put away for the Winter and now it's time to do some fine tuning

The other day I cut the upper section off of a Mopar M1 tunnel ram plenum top that had the carb pads on it.

I did this so I could use the lower portion to weld a plate on to mount a Birdcatcher.

Got all the sharp edges filed smooth so it doesn't cut me while measuring it for a CAD drawing.

I'll draw out the O.D. and then overlay what I need for the Birdcatcher opening and bolt pattern.

Already have the material and once the drawing is complete I'll have the plate cut on a waterjet.

Hopefully in a week or so I'll have it finished. I can't wait to have it all together.

Tom
