So I just got back from MATS, had a great time but couldn't believe what I thought was the lack of factory participation. Awhile back I was fortunate enough to find adealer that would let me order a S/S Challenger. Now the dealer didn't know anything about the car, which was fine, but the order was taken & accepted by the computer, so I know the cars are out there. THE PROBLEM? Mopar didn't have ANY challenger there much less the S/S car & when I asked the guys at the tent they had no info!:angry5::sad5: How can a car company that's in trouble sell a new model, not have it on display at an enthusiasts event AND not have any info on the car? It's bad enough the only model is overpriced and late in arriving, but they don't even promote the car!!!!!! Someone in their PR dept. need to find a new job and Mopar need to stop resting on its past performance........

they arnt being assembled until april bra...how do you think they get top doller with low production the 1st year....

Mopar had one on display last September at the Nationals at Indy Raceway Park. Bigger than the old Challenger but beautiful!!!

whys that 62 bt? and no.....the canadian border is not near wisconsin...musta been gone that day in history..

mopar is the most anti-enthusiast car company out there. i can't stand the new mopar. it has sucked for years now. they just don't get it and its obvious.

Gota agree with abodyjoe on this and if it wasn't for the Cummins I wouldnot have anything new from Mopar.

And that's with my son running a Dodge dealership!

Thanks,

Yeah, it's the truth. Mopar is in deep do-do. Eventually they're going to become another AMC...

Gone....

But on a side note, they had 3 new Challengers on display at the NYC auto show. They had an `08 SRT and 2 `09's, one in Tor Red, and the other in a real nice blue. But no S/S offering. But back in the day those S/S Hurst cars weren't exactly marketed for the masses anyway.

Here's a few pic's to hold you over:

I think there testing out the market to if its gonna be a winner,im sure they realize it will and start ramping up on the 09s

I think that was the German influence. Germans are very stubborn culture things are the way they are and that is it. 2 door cars are not parcitcal in Germany so the first thing they did when they bought Chrystler was to eliminate all 2 door models. Everything from the 2 door neon and stratus to the viper and prowler. Viper alone put dodge back on the enthusiast car map. Basically to a german a car is is just a way to get to point B from point A. They don't understand our love for our street machines.

And I live in Wisconsin and we definately don't border Canada unless you want to go for a really long boat ride!

it started before the germans.. its not only the new cars its everything. they don't support the old cars at all.. mopar performance has been a joke for years now.

Mopar Performance from what i gather doesn't have anything to do with the actual car company any more other than making after market parts for the car company. The only time they did was back in the direct connection days. After the split up the company changed its name to Mopar Performance or at least this is how I all ways understood how the relationship worked. So i really don't see how the after market company would effect the car company into making such lack luster cars. It should be the after market company that supplies us with the parts to make those cars more exciting to drive. But Yes I agree Mopar Performance has been a joke for awhile!

The story I got from the old timers last weekend was that Direct Connection was a separate entity from Mopar parts. When they were about to get the axe an exec, who was more like one of the old time racers, suggested that they get absorbed into the parts division as Mopar Performance. From what I'm told its the most profitable division of Chrysler.

So Chrysler still owns them than?

For now, but there has been a lot of talk about the new owners selling off Mopar Performance.

I was think that might not be such a bad idea at first! But I would like to see where the new owner of Chrysler takes the company first. Right now I think the truck market is the only thing keep it all alive.

no, the minivan is the only thing...down south the dodge trucks are like sand on a beach....but as a dodge and chrysler mechanic....if we didnt have the minivans...chrysler would be hurting...

no other minivan compares.....the t and c is the easiest car to work on...gravy town usa when it comes to performing maint work.

What were the planed production figures on the 2008 Challenger?

Mopar Action did a write up on it. (The only Mopar rag I’ll give money to.
Mopar Muscle? “Copyright” violations my a&&. But that’s another thread),
So I’m sitting there wondering what kind of car company (and magazine mentality) does a “review” of a car that only six thousand people can actually buy?
Just wondering what the point is.

With the economy in current destress it would be a waste of coin to even run tv adds for the new Challenger.
Its not just Chrysler though. The new Camaro coupe is set for release June of 09 yet the convertible wont be out before September. Go figure.
