This should be a fun and interesting thread.

1983 the first car that I rode in that had some real power was a built 69 Super Bee/ 440- 4spd 3.91 That boat was hauling by 3rd gear. Not the fastest in my life, but first of real power.

1984 I rode in a built 69 Boss 429 Mustang that the owner wound out to 7500 rpms every shift. I could have bought that car for $10,000 then and had the money, but bought a house instead.

1986 I rode in AC Cobra SC427 that had a 800 HP 484" Side Oiler in it. That car was absolutely stupid to even be on the street.

Those are my most memorable street rides from my youth.

The first car that I rode in was a 1966 mustang coupe with a mild 289 with a 3 speed manual transmission. Not a race car but it ran great. Second car: 1972 Ford torino with a built 351w, it was quick. Third car: 1971 roadrunner with a 383 auto, it was stock but ran fine. Fourth car: 1971 Camaro with a 350 4 barrel, dual exhaust. Fifth car: 1970 charger, 318 car with headers and a 2 barrel carburetor. I don't know why he never put a 4 barrel on it. Sixth car: 1975 fury, I think it was a fury, it was a dog. I knew guy's that had cool cars but I was never in them.

1st real Mopar I rode in was a friend of my older brother car. Just a 1972 Challenger Rally factory B5 with black strobe stripes, black vinyl top, black interior. 340-727 355 rear, dealer installed A/C.
He gave his younger brother and I charge of the ice chest of beer. And drove the 4 of us to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans
Beads and tire spins got us lots of looks at naked breast and more.
Memorable ride for sure.

Eddie Miller was a client of mine when I lived in Florida. This was back in 2006 or so. Some of you guys may know Eddie from his Drag Week days. He's quite the character. He was testing some suspension parts and I convinced him to take me for a ride in his 73 Duster that won the overall title that year.

He punched that big bock with all of his nitrous kits on and I thought my face was going to peel off my skull. I was hanging on for dear life and he was laughing his *** off. It was a mid 7sec street car. To this day, I've never ridden in anything faster than that. It was insane.

That was the bug that bit me. I've been hooked on MOPAR ever since

First one I was completely blown away was a 69 black on black (triple black) 440 4 speed Charger, I was 14 I believe, a farmers son in Florida had, it was like a bran new car, I rode in it from Dover to Tampa to go see Pink Floyd (Animals tour) , first very fast car I remember riding in that had comfort and powerful style.

"Best" is a pretty wide open description, but keeping in the spirit of the OP which seems to be built street car-

The first "street machine" type car I ever rode in was around 1980 at the age of 12 or 13.

It was a 71 boss 351 4 speed in the iconic yellow with black hood paint. The owner was a friend's dad's friend and he took that kid and me to the store in it.
He explained the work that was done to it but I wasn't paying attention. I was too busy trying to pull myself off of the seat from the G force.

I have had 7 of them, back in 80s and 90s. TA and AARs 4 speeds, 3:54 , 3:91 just good driving stock fun cars. ALL BS BJ cars today! Sold my last one about 91 for $10,000 done. BUT a $ went further back then!!!
:BangHead: :poke:

The first fast one I rode in was a 67 GTX 440 4 speed. My buddy's 68 Hemi Roadrunner pulled pretty hard at high RPM, but my 500 stroker Barracuda was the fastest I drove on the street. It was a mid 11 second car in full street trim.

When I was 16 and working at the Phillips 66 station on the weekends I got to drive a 68 Hemi 4 speed RoadRunner. ALso a Panatera and a 68 427 Corvette.

I will post this car in every thread that comes up like this. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen or rode in. Everybody that laid eyes on this car was in love with it, and straight off the truck it was running 12:30 in the quarter. It was a terror on the streets of SE Michigan, and took runner up in E-purestock at the Summernationals in 1970. A better car could simply not be had.

The first fast ride was in my big brothers' friends 1969 Mach 1 in '69 than in a 1968 383 4 speed Road Runner in '69 and finally a 1970 Hemi Cuda in '70, it was Mopar's for me from then on!

In around 1966 I got a ride from a neighborhood crazy car guy. I missed my bus and he said get in I'll get ahead of it in a few blocks. It was a '64 Plymouth post car, and the thing idled like a nitro car. He got on it for about 5 seconds and it pressed me in the seat like I was going to be in the back seat soon. Funny thing is I was working at the county sheriff's garage as a mechanic for their cars about 6 years later. One of the sheriffs mentioned if I ever saw the car in the basement of the garage. He took me down there and the '64 was there. He had been busted for selling drugs and I guess the car was confiscated. I lifted the hood and it was a 440. The valve covers were off and someone took the rockers and carbs were gone. I left working there and don't know what happened to it. Recently I had a 440 sixpack '71 Dart and that was pretty quick, but $5 gas and an additive told me it was time to sell. Thing was a beast when it hooked up.

I grew up with my dad having a lot of fast cars but the first one that really made and impression on me was his cousins 67 GTO. After they get done building the 400 in it we took it up on the entrance ramp to the highway where he proceeded to test it out. I was planted in the back seat and couldn't have pulled myself away from it if I tried.
Second was the first fast car I drove by myself. I was 15 and hanging with the older kids across the street. Marks sister called and wanted a ride home and none of them wanted to pick her up so Jay tossed me the keys to his 69 428 Torino. I was just glad it made it back to him in one piece

There was a period where my single mom didn't have a car and we carried laundry and groceries home for quite a few months. We lived far enough north that remember seasons changing and it being cold sometimes. I recently measured the field that we used to walk across on Google Earth and it wasn't more than a half mile but I imagined it like the Bataan Death March at the time. Anyway a lady from church started taking us in her car. It was way faster, warmer, and the arms burned a lot less! Thanks Mrs. Pellegrino and your little green Pinto wherever you are!

My tree foaty dart and my Fox Body...I had a 71 1Pontiac T 37 when I was 19. Notice I mention cars that I have driven. i also have driven a 66 Mustang that was real nice they handled well

5 my duster 340 6000 in drive with spray 3.23s 26.99 tall tire=149 mph

You have this back in your garage now I believe don't you @cosgig

Best car? My 70 A66 Challenger 340 that I bought in 1979. It wasn't the fastest, or nicest car I've ever owned but it did everything really well. It was my daily driver for years and it never let me down. It was fast enough to be fun, rode and drove good, and got decent gas mileage for what it was. Oh.....and I've still got it! :) It's an all numbers matching car with 90% of it's date coded parts still in place. It will be the only car I own that gets a nut and bolt restoration because of that, and it patiently waits in the basement for its turn.

My best friend also has an A66 that she bought around that same time period, and she still has it too! (Previous owner dressed it as an R/T, it's not).

My 1973 Gremlin X with 360 AMX engine was a beast to ride in. My grandfather bought a 1970 Mach 1 new and it rode nicely. My Duster is 52 years old now and even with manual brakes and steering it really rides nicely, especially on an open highway.

My first experience with a fast Mopar was as a rider in a 68 or 69 GTX, with 2.76 gears. 90 mph in second of the 727. It ran remarkably well with no gear.
Same owner of the GTX traded a Duster to my friend, straight across for a built 454 (that was a BIG motor at the time). The Duster had a nice 440, 727, Dana 60. Terrorized small block camaros, big block chevelles, and cj fords.
(One of the camaros we destroyed asked what was in the Duster. We told him a 318. You should have seen his face......)
