Ok. here is a question that requires alittle thought. i want to include all makes, models , and manufactures here. in your own opinion, what was the greatest 5 year span for car production and why? i would say 1968-1972. some really great looking cars were produced during this span. amc javlins, ford mach 1's, and torinos, chevy chevelle ss, and impala ss, mercury cyclone spoiler's and cougars, buick grand sports, pontiac gto's, oldsmobile 442 and just about anything mopar of course! really, times were good then. performance was everywhere and cars had looks to match.....ok have at it guys

I would agree. Before my Mopar days I was a Buick guy and owned quite a few Gran Sports. Most were '70 - '72's which were the best looking and fastest. If I still had them to sell I wouldn't have to work, I had some very rare ones.

I would say 67-71. Don't leave out 1967....the 67' GTX is a Fine Example of Beauty.

Every mopar from 67-71 was light years ahead of the competition.

Todays vehicles are ho-hum Cookie Cutter rides.

1979-1984

who can forget the 1983 honda, everyone wanted one in high school. Or the 1984 chevy camaro with factory equipped mullet and 8 track. The Dodge omni still holds the records for fastest quarter mile time and top speed in a production vehicle thanks to it light weight, aerodiamics and hatchback door........who am i kidding? 67-71 by far, love the lines on the 68 dodge charger and 70 dodge challenger

Yea I agree. Most of the 72's were just carry over from 71. and in 67 we were in full swing of the great Muscle car, however the 68 model year was the start of the best small block made.

Hands down 67-71! 67 was a GREAT year - Chevy introduced the camaro, Mopar intro'd the GTX, Ford got real with the Mustang. And I was born too :) It all ended when the Elephant died in 71

Yes. 67-71 was the hay day for all brands of muscle cars.
73 still works for me.

Wow thats a really tough question. I am going have to say 66-70. 66 being the first year of the street Hemi, and 70 being the last year before the government really started strangling all performance cars. That said I am going to have to say 53-57 would have to be a real close second, really close. Just think for a minute of all the great cars that were introduced during that 5 years of the 50's that are defining icons, the letter series Chrysler's, the Thunderbird, the Corvette, not to mention all the great manufactures of that era that are gone now.

I like the 65 to 69 model years. Mopars Seen much change in that five year span with many engine options with the small and big block cars! I am also partial to the keys in the dash!

68-72 (here's why I'm going from 68, not 67)
IMO,
Charger looked way better in 68
Roadrunner looked better in 68
Coronet looked better in 68
340's were powering A-bodys in 68
Superstock Hemi Darts were available in 68

69 GTS darts(383)
69 'cudas
69 440 Six pack Roadrunners and Superbees(tasty)

1970:
E -body's introduced
Duster introduced
AAR Cudas and Challenger T/A available(340 Six Pack)

1971:
Demon introduced
Charger Superbees introduced
Hemi Cuda's looked wicked with Cheesegrater grille, fender gills(Phantasm) Best looking year for the Challenger(best grille and tailights)
Last year for 426 hemi cars and Six packs

1972
Duster still looked great but with longer tailights(best tailights for a Duster)
Last year for the Demon(damn bible thumpers!)

73 was the first year for manditory emmisions control across the board and the final year for ragtops (until 1980) which seemed like the beginning of the end of Americas love affair with the automobile. I agree with 67 through 72.

I'd have to throw out a "me too" post on this one: mid 60's to the early 70's. Everything prior to the mid 60's was still part car-part tractor as far as engineering was concerned. And after the 70's everything just slid right into Hell.

Unless your talking VW Beetles. Pick ANY 5 year span they were made (the originals, not those dolled-up Golf's they sell today) and you had a great, reliable, economical car that could be fixed with a pair of pliers and a rock for $6.00.... like we'll ever see engineering like THAT again.

I am a new member, 10 minutes or so. I can't stop reading all the info. This is super.

Just wait... there will come a time when you'll skip sleep, food, and showers to be here. It's like electronic crack.

All kidding aside, we sleep, eat, and poop A Body Mopar material here. Hang on and enjoy the ride. 8)

68-72.for me too..all the best of each manufacturer models were produced those years, except the corvette 63-67 still the best vettes' produced..

I hate to see the 63 4 and 5 afx cars forgotten and referred to as tractor technology ,come on there was a good 10 year span on musclecars 63 to 73. I,d give my left cahoney for a 63 330 afx superstocker

It is hard to leave out the early 60`s but the big three were really on their game by the late 60`s. With Mopar 72 spelled the end of an era with the elimination of the Hemi and low compression, small valved versions, of a lot of the engines. If you don`t include 67 you`ve left out the greatest style of Vette (IMO) as well as some badass Ford combos like the 427 side oiler. I guess there`s as many answers for this question as people, like Sparky mentioned the late 50`s was a great era for cars. If my father was alive he would probably pick a 5 year period in the 30`s during the Deco era.

Yes, there were good cars in the early 60's, but between the ball & trunnion driveshaft and cast iron Torqueflites, they were a bit on the crude side as opposed to what evolved, and is still used today. And let's not forget those beautiful drum brake equipped Max Wedge cars, where it took brass cojones to drive... and stop.

Tractor technology was just a euphemism for low tech.

66-70. just so i can include my little a-body :) And the bad *** 68 Dart
