Effing with parts guys is not something you wanna do. I sold parts for over 15 years "in a previous life" and the ONE THING that really really REALLY use to piss me off was "they're all the same" as in.......
gimme a smallblock ..........water pump
alternator
fuel pump
distributor
Because they "all" ain't SB Chivvies, and even when they are they AIN'T all the same!!!!
We use to have an alpha hotel guy here in town ran a so called performance garage. One day he came in and wanted a clutch for an "early Ford."
Now can ANYONE tell me what an "early Ford" "is?"
36?
46?
56?
66?
(This was in the late 70's early eighties so maybe even a 66 could be "early?")
And of course no mention of even whether 6 or V8!!!!!
and he got REAL testy when I wanted just a little more information.
!!!!EARLY FORD. It's and EARLY FORD!!!!
Being "inland" and even though there's a few lakes around here, I'd never been "heavy" into marine stuff. Turns out that quite a few of the old marine engines drove the shaft off the FRONT of the engine.
So Some guy comes in with some Gray or Chrysler, or etc. marine flathead want's a "rear main seal."
We order one. He says "no way."
Yup. He wanted the FRONT seal. And of course some marine stuff uses special front covers anyhow
.Eddie's brain was the parts catalog. !!
Here in town, the Auto Zone and O'Rielly stores are the Wal Mart of auto parts.
They are fine for oil, filters and fluids......
