What's wrong with this picture?

I guess if I can't get full groove bearings like I want I'll make another fixture for the lathe and make them full groove myself. I also use a tool with a bigger radius. You don't lose any more bearing area but you carry more oil through the groove.

Nothing, except you end up with a set of bearings with no groove. I've done that though, and grooved the ungrooved bearings.
