Who is "THE" custom cam guy?

(UD)Harold of Comp/Ultradyne/Holley/Lunati fame. Engineer of the whiplash cams and other radical grinds. He is the man but I dont know if his company grinds "custom" cams. Hughes has a good rep, as well as some smaller shops from word of mouth.

He's with Lunasty now. They'll grind anything you want.

Im actually talking with Brian at the moment.

I'm sure he is frustrated. I have all this vague information on my engine that was last rebuilt over 20 years ago.

I'm not sure that's correct. Harold helped design the Voo Doo line of lobes with Luntai, and before that, the XE series for Comp, but Bullet (I thought) was his own "start up" company. I've also had good results with Engle, although they were sold and I was dealing with Mark. It's been a while so I don't know how things are now-a-days.

I'm not sure I get it. It looks to me that all you really want is something that sounds nasty. Still using the stock manifolding and carb on a 20+ year old short block with old iron heads isn't a recipe for neck snapping performance. So really just about any old grind would work for you just keep the duration at .050 around 250 or less. BTW it's the overlap that really makes a cam sound nasty.

20 years old but it only has 2000-3000 miles on it. My goal is optimized for the stock parts, sounding nasty would just be a bonus.

After talking to Brian one thing became clear. To really get what I'm after I need to round up hard numbers and info on what I'm working with.

Harold designed the voodoo line,NEVER had a part in the Comp XE lobes(he would cringe at that thought.LOL),he did design the Comp HE lobes that put comp on the map,has never had a hand in Bullet cams, other than they purchased some of his grinders,UD lobes and got some of his ex employs. He's still doing his thing, just from the house.

Thanks for the clarifications Gold. I knew Bullet had his lobe designs and thought I recalled posts by Harold himself on Speedtalk about helping Comp with "some lobes" and I think it was just as Bullet was "being born". I thought he was referring to the XE line, and that Bullet was his company. Not some remnants of his. My bad.
