Mexican Mopar 360: i need to know how to have more horsepowers

Hi my friends, sorry for my bad english. The last month, i buy a mexican valiant super bee with 300 hp. In mexico city, we are to 2400 meters above sea level, and the car does not reach more than 180 km per hour. I'm interested that changes you may make to the car to exceed 200 km per hour, about the height takes away power. If you can help me, i can appreciate that.

Hola. Before we try to help you, we need some information. Tell us more about the engine if you can (camshaft, intake manifold, exhaust manifold or headers, what kind and size of carburetor, transmission and rear end gears. it is hard to make recommendations without any information.

I'm curious why the intent on higher KMH? With your setup you'll never get that in the 1/4 anyways. A car like that would need in the area of 700 horse to hit 200 KMH in a 1/4 mile, as a guess. How soon/short do you wanna hit 200 KMH? What kind of budget do you have? How much of the car are you willing to change? I mean you could put in a higher rear gear and probably go over 200 KMH, but it would take you forever to get there.

Just as a guess, I'm assuming 26/27 inch tires. With that 3.54, and 5000 RPM, you'd top out at around 180 KMH. Swap the gears out to 3.07s and you'll hit barely 200 KMH. It'll take a while to get there. It won't go as quick off the line. But you'll hit your goal of over 200 KMH, that's the cheapest way of doing it. Or swap the rear end out for a 8-1/4 and then you can put gears in the 2.71 or 2.94 range. Both of which you'll hit over 200 KMH. But then you'll have a weaker rear end unless you spend the money building it.

In the end, the power of the engine has a limited effect on high speed in your case. The altitude isn't affecting your top speed. Just how soon you hit it. It really doesn't take much power to move a vehicle at high speed. Which is why a VW bug can cruise down the highway with a whopping 50 HP. The power determines how quickly you get there. If your goal is top speed. Forget about power. Gear it for top speed. If your goal is how quick you can get to 200 KMH, well then you need to worry about power. And budget.
 
Judging by the rust in the cowl/firewall, it's probably a good thing it can't go more than 180. Ima thinking you need to prove the integrity of the chassis first. If that visible rust-out is any indication, theres gonna be other serious problems, Say the frame rails and the inner apron to firewall, and apron to frame, areas. And the T-bar anchors.
 
Has dual exhaust been added. 2 1/4' - 2 1/2" with an H-pope or x-pipe will help it greatly.
 
It should be capable of that now. It jsut might take some time to get there. How well is it tuned? Does it pull cleanly to 4500-5000 rpm?

Right, '75-'76 Mexican "Valiant Super Bees" were actually the front 1/2 of a Dodge Aspen with the back 1/2 of a Plymouth Volare. And under Mexican mostly non-existent pollution laws the 360s in these were rated at 300 hp.
 
Where do you drive that you need to go that fast anyway?
The first thing i would do is to make sure the car is safe enough to go that speed.
This means tires, brakes, suspension, steering, and most importantly, body structure.
It looks to me as that the car is rusty, therefore weak, and therefore unsafe at any speed over 20 km/h..........
Let's see some more pictures of the car from all angles and the frames, torsion bar crossmember, etc.
 
GEEZ are you guys kidding me.... he is in Argentina for gods sake.... lol thats probably as good as it gets down there for this guy...have a little compassion for his situation. We dont all have lotsa $$$$ and he probably has even less and loves the hobby and is just trying to have fun...
 
Why question is want/need for high speed?
I can not even believe I'm reading that!

The first rule of HP is breath! Breath deep and effectively!

Upgrade its breathing ability with;

A Weiand Action Plus for the stock TQ
A RPM for a squarebore carb like a Holley or Edelbrock.

Add headers and a 2-1/2 exhaust with free flowing mufflers. Join the exhaust pipes with an "X" pipe.

Use an upgraded ignition, a multi spark helps.

Let us know how that works for you before we suggest a high rpm cam and spring set up for more power and rpm.
 
have you ever been to argentina? he may need to run from gangs....and fast.... not a fun place....maybe this is his escape from the dooodooo down there...... going fast is the least of those people problems....
 
Show us some pictures of the entire car, I'd like to see what these look like.

you didn't notice the angle iron subframe welded into that engine bay?

have another look at the power steering pump, you'll see it




as for the HP/torque debate, I was always told that HP determines the speed with which you hit a brick wall, but torque determines how far the wall moves after you hit it






as for the OP, consider the engine as a huge pump, the more efficiently you can get air/fuel in and exhaust out, the more (and quicker) power it will make

so as mentioned, address the intake and exhaust

lol I think that's the battery tray...

a turbo and a set of 245 gears should get you to somewhere around 180 MPH...

From what I can see, you will need to do 4 things to get to 200kph (about 120mph):
1. First (and muy imortante) make sure your car is safe to go that fast. Check the tires, check the suspension and check the brakes carefully. I would not want to be going 120mph with bad ball joints and or bad brakes.
2. Headers will help your engine breath and give you more power.
3. A high performance intake manifold will also help with power. And make sure the carburetor is working properly.
4. I would think that 3.23 (or something close to that) would be a good gear set for you.
 
Torque gets a load moving
HP keeps it going.
