aftermarket shifter in factory console

Niiice. What factory shifter pieces were modified and used for that install? What body type is it mounted in? I suspect E body. Floor in backround doesnt look like an A body
Agreed. That is a very clean install. I'm going to try it when it's time. The poster that did that indicated it was fairly simple. Can't be too much harder than wrestling with 5 miles of cable.

Looks a hell of a lot easier and simpler than wrestling with 5 miles of cable

So depending on what you have, heres what we need. To start from scratch. This looks like a fun project. Feel free to add on. Credit and kudos to the original poster of the FSM diagram.

Then fabricate an upper rod to connect in my case to a Quicksilver. B body but A is very similar:

Or just look for the kits and used parts that seem to be all over eBay. Haha

Might be able to use a b body torque shaft in an a body, with that clip on lever to adapt a home made top rod.
On the a body shaft the top lever looks to be fixed to the shaft.
I have been contemplating this, but don't have the tools I need in my garage to fabricate the. top rod at the moment. Shouldn't be too hard if you do.

Thats the exact set up in my 68 Barracuda..I struggled to get something that didnt foul on something...obviously it needs to be smooth...Im keen to keep trying though, makes a lot of sense to me
I made a rod that ran from the shifter, where the cable hooked on and tried to get something adjustable that mounted onto the arm at the top of the rod...through the OE hole was an issue due to angles...as Im trying to keep the stock console
Looking forward to hearing how others get around this

, Like the install's , looking to do the same soooooon

Only 1 problem i can see with install. A&B shifters the upper linkage attaches on the passenger side of the stock shifter. If you can modify a B&M or Hurst to hook up to the modified stock linkage on the passenger side it would work great. I am thinking the modded shifter setup with stock linkages posted here was a 71 up B or 70 up E body because of the upper pivot bracket and linkage end. Which i cant understand why they would do that to a 70 up E body or 71 up B body when the stock T handle shifter is a ratchet shifter from the factory. It was called a slap stik. Waaay easy to operate, press button, drop it into low. Every gear after that you smack it forward. Hence the name "slap stik". Will only hit 1 gear at a time, will not go past into neutral unless you press the button when moving it.

Mat,
Maybe I'm missing something. Looks like the upper rod connects on the driver side according to the 1973 FSM. Here's the diagram of the a body shifter. I admit I have no real-world experience. Just looking at pictures. LOL.

Okay now I see what you're saying it does look like the upper rod bend's around to the passenger side. Looks like it's an easy fix according to this. At at least for a quicksilver. Just a custom upper Rod and clamp on arm connected to the driver side of the shifter.

This setip is got to be an E body setup. Those shifters were offset to the left. A body mechanisms are centered, and the rod attaches on the right side

Also one more, all done now everything seems to work fine. 65 Dart GT factory console
Necro-post: How did you get the ashtray to fit? My Pro-matic 2 has a big piece of metal there.

Original poster said it's B body. Here's the 1973 E body setup:

This looks B body to me:

71-74 B & 70-74 E same setup. Still the stocker is a ratchet shifter and pretty robust. Seems like going backwards to me. Clean install though.

Sorry, i only have bits n pieces left and a shifter mounting bracket. PM me if interested. Some is ok, some is rough.

Sorry for slow response :( I cut the ashtray off on the bottom, when you lift my ashtray lid the shifter is right there. Good thing I don't smoke :)
