As promised. Kaelyn got her blocking on and finished up the remaining panels. We had a Pacific Hurricane this weekend so Saturday we were stuck inside most of the day.

Today I got brave and shot high build where the low spots were, blocked and really cleaned it up. I then shot it with what I say will be the second (or third max) to final seal before color! I have a couple of spots on the hood that need some very delicate work but that is it. I think the rest of the panels are ready and it look _good_ if we say so ourselves!
Before I got the energy to do that I spent the morning working in the trunk. I used glaze to fill the pits and pin holes. from the rust that I blasted. Notice here I shot it with epoxy primer, added the filler, sanded then shot it with epoxy primer again so the filler is fully encapsulated in epoxy so there is no chance it can find moisture that will cause the epoxy to fail.
A little high build was shot on the wheel wells to use up what I had so they are ready to sand for the final epoxy sealer and color!

I hear you. The weather can be a PITA for these projects.
Junior made us wait one more week for the tear down and cleaning for final paint so he he could take his Duster to Homecoming, primer and all, last night.
A small blizzard hit (6 inches) while at the dance and he had to negotiate icy roads for a total of roughly 20 miles to get his honey home then back to our place in the worst possible car imaginable for driving in those conditions, his 72 Duster.
The bright side is that they had a great experience.
The down side is that we have a little extra clean up work to do.
Close but no cigar.... We have about half of it blocked (wishing it was the final blocking) but there are about 4 low spots in the hood and LR quarter so far. I am not anticipating anymore as these where known and I was hoping the second shot of high build in these area would have been enough.... They need another shot of high build and a final sealer coat of epoxy this weekend.... Maybe weekend after we can shoot the trunk, engine compartment and jambs.... fingers crossed we get that far and the temps are favorable....

My apologies to the professional body guys out there but this **** sucks. About the time you think have it flat another low spot rears its head. Guide coat is great but it can also be a curse.
Back in the day we never used guide coat and went by eye and feel. If a small low spot popped up after paint we would say "Damn, missed that one" and lived with it.
Dress up day as a character at school and Kaelyn extended her new working class knowledge and work clothes! Anyone want to buy War Bonds?

Mine are _so_ close I hit them with water and say "I can't see them the clear will fill them and no one will ever know the difference........ except for me....." I have been staring at them for the last few days trying to decide if I move on or loose a few days fixing them...... Yes I know the answer so I am not looking for opinions......

Excellent job that is gonna one nice car when yall are finished.
I caved in. Will be blocking with 320 this weekend and exposing some high build so this is not the last sealer before color (one can hope).... @John_Lemon backed out on coming down and helping so Kaelyn and I will be sanding and glazing some low spots. If we can get what I am going to say today is the last sealer coat on by the end of the weekend we will be doing good.

In the rollercoaster of restoration I am hitting a low point. I am getting tired of spraying and sanding.... I thought the last shot of epoxy primer was going to be almost the last sealer before color....
The Duster put me back in my place..... I was convinced this was all I had to do and I'd be done....

The Duster thought something different.... It is now dead flat and all orange peal is gone! Qualifier the hood front left corner is still giving me grief, I know it will need a bit more hammering and glaze before I am done....
See it was almost ready to go with the last 2 coats of white epoxy....
And if you want to know how much paper you should be going through with each sanding session here is the pile we created today. The minute the paper is not doing all the work and you have to press harder to make it cut, put on a new piece! If you don't feel like your wasting paper your not changing it enough!

Well crap more rain tomorrow and a high of 63, not gonna get any primer on this weekend. That means more sanding in the trunk and engine compartment 
You all are very lucky to be doing body work on an A body right now. I envy you because I am not going to be able to do this kind of work on my cars till next summer.
Extra care in body work will pay off later, I have been down that road before and painted a few cars black...... what was I thinking.
But in the mean time I can watch you all and dream about starting on my 72 duster.
I am really trying to get to AZ in the late Feb/ March time frame for a vacation and get away for a week.

Spent a little time today starting to plan the next few weeks and preparing. Got the trunk sanded down ready for the final epoxy primer shot. Also got the trunk jambs ready and spent time in the engine bay. Kaelyn and I pulled the doors and fenders so we can also prep the door jambs and inner fenders from the overspray of the last few months. We have a plan that if we can execute to we will be shooting jambs, trunk and engine compartment next weekend since it is suppose to be beautiful weather.....
Opened the Motobase to make sure Chad gave us the right colors. B1 Blue body and B5 blue interior looks like a perfect match to the original parts ;)
Oh and I got the #$%## left front corner of the hood flat now. I did find some dings that I never saw on the fender until I laid them flat on the floor! It is worth taking them back off and looking at them from a new angle.

This is still America, if one is willing to work hard enough, anything is possible.
Bit the bullet and primed into the night. Shot the money side of the doors, trunk and hood with 3 coats of white epoxy primer. This will be good and dry by Friday so that will allow us to lay them on a stand (with a thick blanket) and sand/prep the jamb and inner areas of the doors and the back side of the hood and trunk. If all goes well this is the last primer on the money side for these panels. I wanted to do this so we did not have to paint epoxy primer on the money side after we have painted base and clear on the back sides. Just more chance of ruining the finish in the jamb area.... I do know I saw a small ding in the hood I missed so I have at least one spot to fix and touch up.
We are getting excited to see some color and it is suppose to be an IDEAL weekend to get it done!

Wife called freaked out... The dogs dragged one of the seat backs into the middle of the back yard and tore it to shreds
She thought we were going to be furious! They are in the back yard because of all the rat crap and pee in them. I was never going to sit on them till they were redone!
