Trick Flow small block heads

You are forgetting that TrickFlow didn't set out with I'm going to copy an Edelbrock head and just cast a head. The exhaust port is a way nicer looking port than any Edelbrock, ProMaxx, Speedmaster, ProComp, or any other copied import. One look at TrickFlow heads close-up will tell you this company cares about what they send out the door. (unlike Edelbrock CRAP) TrickFlow could have flow tested their head on a 4.100 bore adapter but they didn't. They instead tested on a 4.000 bore test fixture. I don't personally know Brian at IMM engines in California but he tested on a 4.030 fixture and got slightly higher numbers than TrickFlow did. We are very lucky to have TrickFlow making Mopar products and I for one can't wait to see their next Mopar project.
That bench reads higher than mine as well.
I don't believe .030 is the diff.
 
OK... normally aspirated, under .570 lift flat tappet hydraulic with 9.5-10.0 compression.
Should I use studs or bolts to fasten the heads?

Looking forward to hearing how people like them once they get them on the street and track. Thinking of swapping my Eddy's out for these.
 
Mike the owner of TrickFlow was at Norwalk on Saturday but I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. I would of loved to ask him how sales were going and if a MORE racier head was in the future

Yea, I hear ya. It’s a bit of a catch 22. Port what I have to the same/similar level as the new head OR get the new head and rockers. More money.....

Hoping they release an offset intake rocker version with a 2.055 intake valve in the 215-220cc range.

I think the release date may be part of what is going on. A lot of engines are built for the summer use in the winter. If these were out even a couple of months ago, I think some dyno testing would be done, and even some racing/driving in certain parts of the country. Also, they really have not been out very long, and the shops that have them are still figuring things out like rocker arm geometry, parts needed, and so forth while still trying to do their normal engine building business. Personally I'm will be ready to lay down my cash for these when my project gets to that stage. They would have to be a catastrophic failure for me not to buy these over Eddy's or, EQ's.

I have ordered mine but my car is 1500 miles away, just trying to live vicariously through someone else’s adventures... lol
 
My heads are still in the box waiting for the short block to be assembled which has been sitting in a plastic bag for several months. Our wonderful drag strip closes down for the summer until 2nd week of September....out of side MATS a coupe weeks ago...the last race was the end of March...I have a couple of cars that need some maintenance, just got one done yesterday, should have the 71 Duster apart this weekend and back together due to have a 4 day weekend.

The plans for the heads will be a 408 with large FT cam Hughes 6468 like the current 408 engines using CNC eddy heads with a Eddy Victor 340 intake. The block is cut for zero deck, honed and ready to go. Scat crank...scat I beam rods and SRP pistons all balanced and ready....my daughter told me I need to quit my day job so i can work on the cars more......kids...

I was going to retire in 6 weeks...end of June but looks like I might put that off until end of Sept ...want to buy a "newer" truck....
 
Mine are on the car and running.
Last two times the wagon was supposed to get to the track it has rained.
This Sunday is the next attempt.
 
I like everything but that bowl. That was all the rage back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Inducing all that swirl is horrible. Unless you are trying to get the cats to light off or some other C.A.F.E. nonsense.
Looks like the afr eliminator head and the "wing flow" design they use on cnc competition port jobs. Its my understanding this is not a true swirl design but a much milder "in between deal",they also say its not just a flow improvement on the bench but was a dyno tested improvement in hp as well. In my opinion Afr is a reputable company and their heads definitely make power but I would be really interested to know if someone had any back to back dyno results in regard to removal of it on the afr heads as they never used to have it and now they do. Its interesting to see what theories come and go and the ones that get revisited and tweaked upon,much like the whole quench thing lol.

I ported a set of Chevy Dart Platnum heads for a good Friend and the he bought a set of cnc’d 220 Chevy AFR heads. We flow tested them and they were nowhere near their advertised flow numbers. I did a lot of porting on those heads to get them right and her ended up running 10.40’s on a stock stroke 350 in his street strip S10 truck.

time fly's but I going to say around 5 years ago, maybe 6. It did have the wing in it and I did remove some of it but once again my major porting work it making more area at the short-side. I check air speeds and address an area to control it then move to another area. As soon as I pick up more CFM there I may have to move back to the short-side. You can see and hear turbulance if you know what you are looking for. I continue this till I see the numbers I want at the lift I need it at. .750 lift numbers although are important mid lift numbers are the main objective especially if only using a .625 gross lift cam.
