70 Dart 340 Restoration Info Help Please

I have always been a B Body man and need help with restoration information.

I acquired a 70 Dart 340 in part boxes. Some parts were missing and I am in need of information. Anything I get for the car I want to keep original. As far as I can tell it is an original # matching car. Not sure about the trans.

At this point I know I need the power brake brackets and power booster for a disc brake system. Can anyone help me with the diagram and type of booster setup I should have? I have seen two different types but not sure of which one is correct.

The car came with a 904 trans. Should he car have a 727?

Any help with the motor and pulley setup for an AC setup would be a great help as well. I would like to get the motor together and have to accumulate the correct pulleys/brackets etc.

Cant say I've ever seen one that came with a 904. Stranger things have happened but I dont think they would warranty the the trans.
 
I have noticed the master cylinder rod is hanging out of the firewall. Is it possible to have manual disc brakes? It makes sense to that if it had a power brake booster that rod shouldn't be there. I only located the master cylinder with the rest of the parts. Maybe it never had a booster? I always thought disc brakes always had boosters?

I know weird things can happen. I will look into the trans number and check to see if it has a serial number to match. I have heard that the 904 trans is very good. But I would like to get it back to the original combination. Thanks for the reply

Nope. They were available with or without a booster. Check the master cylinder bore size and it should provide a clue.

Dig around in the car for an original build sheet. If you can find one, it should answer a lot of questions.
 

The fender tag should provide clues also. Only the Swinger 340 came with the 340 engine in 1970, it wasn’t an option on other models. Post your fender tag and we can decode it.

No 340 car should have a 904 transmission from the factory.

Have you numbers matched the engine to the car?

Here are pictures of the master cylinder rod coming out of the firewall. I haven't touched it. It's the way I got the car. This makes me think it didn't have a booster. Also is the fender tag. Any help would be great. I will get back soon with the tranny numbers. Thanks.

The D32 code on the bottom left is the code for a 727 transmission. The E55 code beside it is the code for a 340. If your car does have a 904 in it now, it’s not what the car came with from the factory.

OK Thanks. Guess I go in the hunt for a date coded 727. If anyone knows of a good source that would be great. Thank you!
 
You can't have an original car if vin#'s don't match, engine & tranny. Why look for a 70 tranny when later model 727's are improved. Just something to think about since car will never be numbers matching.
 
Welcome from Texas. It all depends on what you are going to do with the car. If you are building a concours restoration, get a date coded transmission. If your transmission is good, use it. No one here is going to throw rocks at you for building the car to suit yourself. Build it & drive it like you stole it! LMAO
 
Thanks for the responses. I did investigate the trans numbers and it is the original 727. I will look into decoding the tag and go from there instead of the guessing games. The parts have been moved around three times in boxes and it's a long process. Next stop looking for the build sheet.

I could use a source for decoding fender tags and build sheets if someone knows of it.

I also need an original oil dip stick for the 1970 340 if anyone has one. Thanks again.
 
Build sheets are located under the front drivers carpet or under the back seat weaved into the springs. I will confirm that manual brakes front disc standard set up with the 70s swinger 340 package
